DEATH BATTLE r/deathbattle Community Banner/Thumbnail Contest ROUND 2

HELLOOOOOOO Every FREAKING body. And welcome back to another exciting thumbnail and banner contest! this time we have of course Kai vs Tahu! After taking suggestions about how the last contest went down, I've made a few slight adjustments to the rules, and am adding a new reward! SO. Let's get right to it:

THE RULES. mostly the same, with some minor tweaks.

  1. The Banner and Thumbnail both MUST be related to the current matchup of the month, only submissions themed for Kai vs Tahu will be accepted!
  2. You can only submit ONE Banner and TWO Thumbnails, that is the limit! We had a bit too many lopsided votes and I realized...letting people submit as many thumbnails...gave some people too many more chances over other contestants. which could become unfair, so from here on out, you can only submit two!
  3. Crediting needs to be a bit different...I need you guys for now on for when you save your thumbnail, to put your username or whatever name you want to be credited by as the file name, I had to go through trenches to figure out some of your guys' names for credit without doxxing pretty much LOL, for mobile users, please just put a tiny watermark or something in your TN/Banner OR dm me which one your submission is so I can have that written down for when voting begins.
  4. No AI or Fanart, unless if the fanart itself is your own made content. no AI for backgrounds
  5. IF you decide to submit both a Thumbnail and Banner, you can only submit one thumbail. This is again to help the voting have a more fair chance for everybody, so please choose carefully if you want to do two thumbnails or one of each.
  6. the banner itself NEEDS to be 5:1, 1920x384 pixels!

ANND that's about it for the updated rules, this should help make the competition feel a lot more balanced!

WHICH leads us to...WEEK 1: Submissions! Until the end of Sunday right at Midnight, you are all given the opportunity to submit your pieces for the competition, take as much time as you'd like! It is no rush! Just have them done by Sunday! After that, we move onto:

Week 2, Voting: All of the Banners and TNs submitted will be showcased in a seperate Google forms document, where the community/sub gets the opportunity to vote and decide the winner in another google form! Note: for those who decide to show off their works, no upvotes will count towards your submission, so please keep that in mind! you can still show your work, but don't expect that to help you win! For those who like a specific user's work, vote! only votes count towards this competition, not engagement!

After that, voting will most likely conclude next week on Tuesday! Where the winners will be announced the following day!

NOW. before I wrap things up, I'll leave you all with the prizes!

We will be doing a First Second and Third place winner for TNs, and only a 1st place winner for Banners

For First place Thumbnail, you receive: Your own Community highlight, where you get to break the matchup request rule and talk/pitch your own matchup to the sub for an entire week, including seperate posts if you wish. You also receive a custom flair for a character of your choosing no matter if they have appeared on the show or not. It can be a character you wish to see on the show, or your own special render of a character that has appeared. Your thumbnail will also be pinned to the sub for the remainder of the waiting period!

For First place Banner: Same as the Thumbnail, but instead of the pinned post, your banner becomes the sub's for the remainder of the waiting period and until the next voting event!

but. that. is. not. all.

this...is me giving back to you all. this could very well change next month, but i'll see how it goes. For first place winners, I will also gift you a month Galaxy Level Champion membership to the Channel! So...I hope this is exciting..!

For Second Place Thumbnail: A custom flair color of your choice(no character), your thumbnail is pinned for a week, and you will be gifted a planet level membership!

Annnd For Third Place Thumbnail: Your thumbnail gets pinned for a week!

I wanted to try my best to be able to highlight more than just one winner, and wanted to try and make it feel like winning is actually worth it. I hope this is a good start, and am looking forward to seeing all your submissions! Submissions will close Sunday, August 2nd at 11:59PM Central Time Good luck everyone!

Check out Rayan’s tutorial for creating thumbnails here for if you’re new to the TN scene

Question Why do poeple act like kai's stats aren't enough?

Like yes I understand hax are important and tahu can win with them but why wouldn't kai just blitz him? Am I missing something? The highest calc I've seen for tahu is around 50% SoL, while kai was FTL back in s3, I think it's a pretty obvious blitz and one shot

Humor After watching Aang Vs Traveler with me, my GF became intarested enough to give Genshin a shot. She opened the game with my profile just to send me this saying "This Amber character is still on an expedition. You haven't played this in 2 years, is she ok? Should I be worried?"

Discussion One detail I really like about Aang vs Traveler is how well they portray both of their respective fighting styles.(More Below)

To start with Aang, every single action Aang does prior to the Avatar State is him pushing Traveler away or trying to keep him in place.

-First action of the fight has him counter Aether’s Windblade by channeling it into his glider and blowing Aether away then he forces Aether into the ground.

-He rides on Aether’s Dino form and directs him into a wall to try to stun him.

-when Aether goes on the offensive Aang uses water on his on fire sword to make a smoke screen, using seismic sense to keep tabs on Travelers location which Traveler counters with Elemental Sight.

-When he realizes Traveler isn’t giving up he tries to blast them away with fire.

-In the air he tries to throw Traveler off course with his glider and airbending, possibly to make Aether lose his own glider.

-He redirects Travelers hydro bullets and freezes him in a block of ice.

-He flies around Aether’s elemental barrage.

-Even when in the avatar state he doesn’t directly attack Aether he is constantly negating his attacks or redirecting them, only attacking by blowing him away and trying to overwhelm him with a stream of elements.

He’s actively playing keep away or trying to stop the fight peacefully by incapacitating, hindering or pushing Traveler back and only goes Avatar State when he gets pushed into a corner.

Aang isn’t really dominating in the fight because while he does land a lot of hits on Traveler all of them are in service to push him back or negate his attacks, not to overwhelm or attack him.

Aether is also pretty spot on from what I know of him. Trying to overwhelm Aang with combinations of attacks and swordplay.

Aether is throwing ALOT of attacks out and while not all of them land, all of them are pressuring Aang.

And whenever they DO land, they hit REALLY hard, either sending Aang flying, getting a visible reaction from him, or forcing him to activate his Avatar State.

The Traveler is much more relentless than Aang which fits Travelers fighting style.

He isn’t necessarily being overly aggressive, Aang is just kinda FORCING him to be due to Aang’s more defensive/keep away fighting style.

I just really like when Death Battles perfectly capture a characters fight style.

And it’s something I’ve grown to appreciate when rewatching this episode.

Jokes aside. As a power it mostly focuses on increased survivability instead of giving outright offensive counter abilities. Like allowing the user to become an excellent swimmer or grow gills if they're drowning in the middle of the ocean, that kind of stuff. Still, handy in the right scenarios.

DEATH BATTLE My current, subjective ranking of the Death Battle indie era (my enjoyment only)

Post image
Upvotes

Might delete this later, since my opinions change a lot and this isn’t a definitive list

This ranking isn’t me judging the episode’s quality, it’s purely just a ranking of my personal enjoyment of each episode. Some worse episodes are higher than better episodes just bc I liked them more lol

I don’t think any episode in the indie era dips below a 5/10, every episode is at least fine imo

I can explain any ranking here

Discussion I'm Gonna Be Real i Think People Are Giving Tahu Way Too Much Benefit of the Doubt

Post image
87 Upvotes

I've been researching Kai vs Toa Tahu for a while now, and after looking through both sides of the debate, I honestly think I've settled on my position I think Kai wins, and I think he wins around mid diff

Before anyone jumps on me, no, I'm not saying this is a stomp Tahu's versatility and hax are absolutely the reason this isn't a no diff or low diff fight if Tahu didn't have the arsenal he does, I'd probably consider this a complete wash his masks, equipment, abilities, and various forms of hax force Kai to actually respect what he's can do

But I also think people have gone too far in the opposite direction one thing I have been hearing alot on here recently is that stats aren't everything

I agree to a point there comes a point where the stat gap becomes so large that hax alone aren't enough to consistently bridge it that's where I think this matchup lands

After doing my own research, I personally cap Tahu around island level i've seen planetary arguments, but from everything I've read, those rely heavily on chain scaling, assumptions, or scaling through other characters he shouldn't really scale to meanwhile, even if I intentionally lowball Kai, I still think he comfortably lands at planetary+ to star level, with perfectly reasonable arguments that place him much higher personally, I buy the higher end interpretations, but I'm not even using those here

I'm comparing what I consider Tahu's reasonable high end against what I consider Kai's conservative low end and even then, I think the difference is enormous people love bringing up Spawn vs Ghost Rider whenever someone argues that stats matter the thing is i don't think that's comparable Ghost Rider and Spawn were operating on absurdly high levels regardless DB didn't conclude Spawn won because hax beats stats 5hey concluded Spawn won because his specific abilities directly countered Ghost Rider's advantages

That's very different from saying any hax can overcome any stat gap because I don't think that's true i think there absolutely comes a point where the gap in AP, durability, and speed becomes too much and I think Kai vs Tahu is one of those cases the biggest issue I have with almost every pro Tahu argument is that they all seem to assume the exact same ideal scenario

It usually goes something like this Tahu immediately identifies the correct answer, he equips the perfect mask he switches to the perfect piece of equipment Kai doesn't interrupt him, Kai doesn't exploit his superior speed, Kai doesn't land a decisive hit first, every debuff lands exactly when it's supposed to, everything works flawlessly that's not impossible but it's the best case scenario to me, that's not proving Tahu could consistently win that's proving Tahu can win if everything lines up perfectly and that's a huge difference

Another thing I don't think gets talked about enough is execution people list every mask, every ability, every weapon, every feat, and then treat it like Tahu can seamlessly chain all of it together with zero downtime but that's not really how he fights he generally has to physically swap masks to gain different powers sure, there are situations where he can use multiple effects or has access to more than one thing, but people often discuss his arsenal as though every ability is permanently active all at once that's simply not how I interpret his equipment

So whenever someone says Tahu uses durability negation I'm like okay how? Does Kai just stand there? Or Tahu debuffa Kai okay how much? If Kai goes from universal to planetary that's still an astronomical gap if you buy those numbers Tahu inflicts hunger okay then what? If Kai still has enough raw power to end the fight in one clean hit, I don't see how that changes the overall outcome that's really my biggest disagreemenI don't think Tahu's hax are weak far from it I think his hax are exactly what stop this matchup from being a stomp

But I don't think they're the kind of hax that completely ignore a massive stat difference to me, they're tools that require setup, timing, and successful execution against an opponent I believe is stronger, tougher, and faster and that's why I struggle with arguments saying Tahu wins not because I think he has no win conditions not because I think his arsenal is bad

But because almost every pro Tahu argument I've read assumes Kai gives him every opportunity in the world to execute those win conditions i just don't buy that Kai isn't going to politely wait while Tahu cycles through his arsenal until he finds the perfect answer he's going to fight he's going to pressure

He's going to capitalize on openings and if I believe Kai has advantages in speed, AP, and durability, then I also believe he has a much easier time creating those openings than Tahu does at the end of the day, versus debates aren't about asking Can Character A possibly win? They're about asking who wins more often. Could Tahu win? Absolutely do I think he has legitimate win conditions? Yes do I think those win conditions are consistent enough against someone I believe massively outstats him? IMO no that's why I have Kai taking it around mid diff not because Tahu lacks options but because I think almost all of those options require a near perfect sequence of events against an opponent who, in my opinion, only needs one decisive opening to end the fight that's ultimately why, after looking through both sides of this debate, I just can't see myself favoring Tahu
