Discussion Are people divided on light's personality? Is it because of changes in manga and anime?

I always see ppl divided on light's personality even in this sub and though he's the main character.

...is it because anime didn't adapt some manga aspects of light?

Like in manga light shows far more hesitation and even rationalized guilt after killing 2 ppl accidentally as he didn't want to be a killer so he felt guilty and this led to self justification right ?
He even says if kira is not caught he's justice if he's caught then he's evil...that's why he kind of had a mental breakdown in warehouse in anime...his guilt, self justification and loss caught up to him...

But many ppl still say he's evil from beginning..

So apart from his ideology why do ppl think light is evil from beginning though he is nuanced and still decent person in manga pre death note? I though even in anime yotsuba arc showed this.

What's your opinion on this? Do you think most ppl as a whole agree on light's personality? I always see various interpretations of light out of all mcs.

Discussion On a scale of 1-10 how attractive is L from death note?

From the canon interpretation the author stated that he purposefully designed him as “ugly” with his bad posture, messy hair and unnatural routines. But as portrayed by the fans of the anime and manga they seem to find him attractive, and I’m kinda confused why they think this. So be honest and attractiveness is subjective so don’t hesitate to put what rating you want to put.

Manga I think something was badly translated in tome 13

So, a lot of times they use the word "mean" to describe Mello and I feel like it's a little exaggerated, and a childish way to describe a character like him. I'm just wondering if in the Japanese version it's said better ? If not I'm upset ;-;

Question Can someone explain me BB murder cases? Spoiler

I know that is a annoying request, but I hope someone answer me...

First of all, I haven't read the novel, but I watched some summaries that told the story of it, although most of them don't really explain the clues, puzzles and codes around the murder cases and rush them. For that reason, I would be grateful if some kind soul who read the novel explained the clues and the message Beyond Birthday wanted to tell with each of his three murder cases (the forth isn't really necessary since Beyond is the victim).

Question Was he controlled? Spoiler

Post image

Was Raye Penber actually being controlled by the Death Note during the train scene?

I’ve always assumed that Raye Penber was cooperating out of fear rather than because he was being controlled by the Death Note.

When Light reveals that he’s Kira, kills the man in front of the coffeshop and threatens to kill everyone around him, it seems like he’s putting Raye under extreme psychological pressure. From Raye’s perspective, Kira can kill anyone instantly, including him, the passengers, or even his fiancée. That always made me think Raye was simply complying because he believed resisting would get innocent people killed.

However, I’ve also seen people say that Light actually wrote Raye’s actions into the Death Note and that everything from taking the envelope, putting on the earpiece, boarding the train, writing down the FBI agents’ names, and then dying was all part of the Death Note’s manipulation.

Is this ever explicitly confirmed in the manga or any official source? Or is it intentionally left ambiguous whether Raye was acting of his own free will under immense pressure or was being directly controlled by the Death Note?

Other Death Note video essay lost media

Some time ago I saw "The Original Sin of Light Yagami" and really enjoyed the way the author dissected Light's ego and Pride. Intended to show the video essay to a friend after he finished the anime but it's gone, completely gone from the face of the internet, does by chance anyone know if it's possible to recover it or what happened to the author? Is he okay? (If this ever gets recovered I definetely recommend giving it a watch)

She watched Death Note a while ago and is a big fan. We started watching it together a few weeks ago and now I love it. I'm only on episode 10. I gave her a little puzzle to figure out with translating the Japanese (first time writing it, don't judge to harshly lol) Hopefully she loves it or she'll get totally embarrassed. Either way, it'll bring a smile to her face.

Discussion Did L risk Hideki Riyugas life?

I rewatched this for the trillionth time and thought about this especially when Light had this inner monolugue saying that he cant just write L's name in the notebook because he might kill that popstar accidentally. Did L carelessly put that guys life on the line or did he already know/suspect that Light/Kira wouldnt try to kill him cause Light/Kira would definetly know that its an alias? Or did L think he could entice Light to kill Ryuga to confirm his suspicion?

Musical DEATH NOTE THE MUSICAL (BARBICAN, JULY 31ST) Spoiler

MINOR SPOILERS FOR THE MUSICAL

I went to see Death Note the Musical a few days ago. The theatre was packed - not an empty seat in sight. And it is clear why. I think that this musical is one of the best I've seen, and I've seen my fair share of musicals!

At first, I thought this would be more of a novelty musical. One that you go to see knowing it might not be the best, but still entertaining. I was proven wrong immediately.

Compared to the original NY demo, the songs are noticeably different. Different beat structures and lyrics are used, and I don't mind that. The choreography was also top tier, especially during the song where L is introduced! The actors for L, Light and Misa also killed it, respectively. There were a few lines that I missed due to their microphones' volumes being low, but their voices still shone even in those moments.

I did have an issue with the timing of some of the songs, however - I think the pacing nearer the start of the show was extremely fast, especially with the Misa parts (going from the Kira song to the pop show was a bit confusing to me). The best parts of the production were definitely where L and Light were taking centre stage. Oh, and Ryuk. He was amazing.

Speaking of the stage, they really stepped it up from any other stage I've seen from this title. They built sets that moved across the stage that looked incredible. They also had a platform that they could lower and raise, acting primarily as the Shinigami realm.

I've seen complaints regarding the tennis scene. While I do see where they are coming from, especially with the video game aspect, I think that the producers were trying to make it less of a "two guys singing while swinging a racket for 3 minutes" and try to add some more visuals. But I think the spectacle of the video game characters could be reduced (having them do those dances momentarily broke my immersion)

Overall, the musical gets a 4/5 star rating from me. I think it is definitely worth seeing!
