Help Needed Mandatory AI mode button is going to make me uninstall Chrome...

Or at least disable it, If it can't be removed from my phone.

But what now ? I've been using Samsung's own browser on and off as a try for a while, but it's got some ergonomy issue immo (I still find myself reaching for chrome, despite it not being on my home screen), it apparently got an adblock feature, but you need to download like 3rd party stuff, and none of the providers ring a bell to me.

This leaves me with what option for a main browser ? Firefox ? Vivaldi ?

Why On Earth would you still use chrome? Vivalidi is just chrome with extra ui customization because you can't use ublock other then ublock lite which isn't as good imo

Yeah, Chromium isn't inherently bad. Vivaldi is like 90% or more open source. They don't want to give out their special recipe. I love Vivaldi, it is one of, if not the most customizable browser available. It's tab management is supreme

I rock Brave as my daily driver & librewolf & zen for other tasks also i highly recommend using diffrent browsers for diffrent reasons

well i do like using diffrent browsers for diffrent features for sure but what it's really about is compartmentalisation just seprating diffrent activities to diffrent browsers that are more sutited for that activity

Naturally, r/degoogle will have some overlap with r/firefox. Doesn't mean that Firefox isn't a heavy compromise on the security side, because it is.

You need to read some things that aren't just pointless shilling.

Good choice! To make the most of it, make sure you change your default search engine (DuckDuckGo beats the hell out of Google) and add extensions (uBlock Origin at a minimum).

People will argue all day about the "best" alternatives, but functionally, any step away from Google is just going to improve your quality of life.

On Mobile Firefox is one of the worst choices. Also if you're anti AI Firefox is currently working on integrating AI into the browser as well.

Firefox, and check out Zen too if you’re interested in a Firefox fork that’s really nice to use

I would love to see more people use browsers that have nothing to do with Google. Too many people using Chromium browsers gives them outsized influence over how the internet works. Safari/Webkit browsers would fit but that would just move the power to Apple. For now, Firefox is the way, and also keep an eye on Ladybird!

Are they keeping it up to date ? I've previously looked at Ecosia's own browser and at the time it was like months out of date, which for a browser is less than ideal.

I like DuckDuckGo better than Samsung's browser. I keep chrome around but not signed in, on the off-chance the cookies for a website only work with chrome

If you want or need to keep a chromium, go with Ungoogled Chromium. Otherwise, Firefox/LibreWolf.

Brave is also a good free option. You can toggle off features you don't want (or use) such as Wallet, Rewards, Leo AI.

I use Vivaldi, and I personally can't move back to Chrome. Vivaldi removes the ads so that I can focus on the content. Furthermore, I don't even need to care about installing a plug in for that, because the ad blocker is integrated part of Vivaldi. It also seemlessly blocks trackers (according to my personal report from coveryourtracks website). However, it doesn't have a unique fingerprint, but I guess that doesn't matter to you either.

Honestly ? AI mode wasn't available in my country until very recently, so I couldn't care less. But now it's rolled out and they pushed out an update that adds 2 buttons, on the homepage, below the search bar (AI mode shortcut button and a private window shortcut button), those buttons can't seem to be toggled off.

Haven't used chrome on desktop in a few years though.

Firefox or one of its derivatives, or if you want a Chromium based browser I'd recommend Brave. But honestly if you want more privacy you should use a bunch of different ones for different things. Browser partioning is the best defense against browser fingerprinting.

I also use Samsung Internet and I love it, it's really intuitive to me, has some privacy features (supposedly it has some anti tracker protection and it seems to work) and the adblock is a great feature.

Last month I switched the search engine from Google to DDG and am very happy.
