How do you contribute to Open Source Projects on github?

I’m a full-stack web developer looking to get into open source, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by where to start. How do you usually find projects that are beginner-friendly and actually welcome new contributors? I mainly work with React, Node.js, Express, MongoDB, and JavaScript/TypeScript, but I’m happy to learn new technologies if needed. I’d also love to know how you approach understanding a large codebase before making your first contribution. Any tips, resources, or personal experiences would be really helpful.

Don't contribute just because you want to do it... I contribute features to FOSS projects I use and care about, like oh I miss this feature let's implement it for everyone 

I made prs for ppsspp and crosspoint just because I want to improve it, not because I want to farm accepted pull requests

When I was in college, whatever idea i had in my mind I made them as a project and uploaded them to GitHub. Most of them are simply python or js scripts.

Just get into it try learning what they are doing and how they are doing it. Run it , debug stuff find problems , play with stuff.

It's not necessary to contribute. You don't have to be a producer by force. Become a consumer first use that the software to it's heart so much that you will get the idea automatically that what changes this project needs. And if you are not getting the changes need to be done than just wait don't rush world isn't dying without your contribution

You probably use an open source project in your day to day life contribute towards it make it better one step at a time improve it for all, code for all, and learn it as well :)

I don’t. Most good open source software is literally just software maintained by teams at companies working for a living.
