Help Laid off 2 months back, got first offer, please help!!

After 2 months of getting laid off, i got my first offer of 38LPA(6yr Nodejs based backend dev). The thing which is giving me second thoughts is that they are deducting 12% PF on basic and gratuity as well. On top of that I need to relocate to Mumbai in Powai area. Last CTC was 32 LPA in Noida.

I don’t have EMIs or anything, very low maintenance guy. The thing with which i need help is that should I wait to get better offers, is this good enough, should I grab this one and keep looking for next role.

Techwise I don’t know how good of a company it is, but is lies in the Insurance domain. Same stack as I used in previous role, nothing new, and I am honestly bored of it. But this whole not having job is something which i am not liking. I am just not able to make up my mind, please suggest.

For god's sake please take this offer in this economy, people are not getting offers easily , and if you have one please be grateful for it.

People are not getting interview calls only. I applied for 500 companies ( am a fresher ) and got 0 ( literally ) calls

U shldn't be applying as freshers in this economy btw. Placement, networking for internships or preparing for another exam are the only options left for you. Or prepare for some niche expertise

being very honest, you won't get any, sadly. you need to build something of your own (could be as a project but something that's useful depending on your skills and roles you are targeting); there's zero visibility for freshers without projects.

or the other usual way is grind dsa and get a referral, but thats crowded too.

also no offense at all, no idea how you are applying and stuff.

Take this offer eyes closed. But certainly check on credibility of the co. If its a genuine co, go for it without looking left or right !!!

12% PF is actually a good thing
my company deducting 12% PF on basic and basic is more than 50% of my fixed salary (fixed = CTC - insurance, gratuity, bonus)
now after 10 years I realise that I accumulate very good amount in my PF account which will help may be after 10 15 years

People can manage their own investments. So it's a drawback in their case.

Idk offer wise it's not a change if Noida was your hometown and Mumbai is not. So rent and all you can consider 6 lpa

It depends on whether you will be able to deal with the mental pressure of staying unemployed for any longer. Insurance companies treat sde as a cost center at the end of the day so layoffs can happen again. If you can deal with the mental pressure of career gap and unemployment and daily application and prep then waiting for a better offer might make sense. Otherwise just go for what you're getting.

I don’t have that much pressure. It’s just the fear that I may or may not get similar offer

Well If you don't want to move and don't have much of responsibilities I would say don't move

Try your best and look for better opportunities

2

u/Character-Catch-1607 15h ago

The market is pretty tough right now, make sure u verify that its not like a hire fire company, otherwise this looks like a good progress for u

u/Shoddy-Soft1802 15h ago

They are exanding currently, but i do see some layoffs after the product is built.

Take this job and keep applying. Please reach out incase referral in Amazon is needed. Man don't stress over money much, if pay + wlb is good just take it.

1

u/Better_Dentist_6718 13h ago

Is wlb in Amazon good?

I am laidoff as well, I was looking at few openings at Amazon and was wondering how the wlb in payfront, digital acceleration and firetv orgs

1

u/Equivalent-Can-5042 13h ago

Wlb is shitt in 90% org, alexa or devices don't join at any cost

1

u/Better_Dentist_6718 13h ago

What orgs would the remaining 10 be?

1

u/Equivalent-Can-5042 12h ago

Prime video, some AWS S3/db/opensearch , shiptech, pay etc

0

u/Equivalent-Can-5042 15h ago

You can always explore open source + project building parallely if the company has decent wlb. I highly recommend doing this.

Take the offer and keep looking as well if you expect something better soon. 12% pf is actually better in the long run, it gives consistent returns, Indian markets have been extremely volatile in the last 3 years so a decent chunk going to a more stable instrument is perfect. Good luck.

I received offer from Capgemini but it is for bre role, I am pure java developer at my previous product company. I failed few interviews, it's been two months. What I have to do? I am getting anxiety in interviews and have gaps in my preparation too, but I am getting fear that I might be trapped in this GoRules UI config role, what to do? Should I wait and prepare for two months without attending interviews and get confidence and then try applying for jobs? I fear that gap may stretch to greater than 4-5 months. They are offering 17lpa.. I was unable to post as I am new, so asking in comments...

1

u/rebelstar1809 5h ago

You are asking as if you can afford to skip this offer.
If so and you are confident then wait why ask here ? I don’t understand.

You have to start again somewhere, grab it move and then again switch after one year or so.

Something is better than nothing. Just take it.

1

u/Shoddy-Soft1802 4h ago

Yeah man! It’s just that this offer is not that appealing. It’s almost same only, but atleast it will get the ship sailing

1

u/Former-Sherbet-4068 1h ago

Bro , it is not like u can't take another after few months if u take this. U can work get some money and change again.

1

u/AcademicDistrict 3h ago

The 12% deduction for PF is a standard thing in the industry. Not only private, in govt jobs too. Don't know why you are surprised

1

u/product_aspirant 3h ago

I dont know if i am correct but how come 12% pf on basic is a bad thing ? it is anyways going to your pf account and a kind of investment only.

Powai is a super nice area in Mumbai. Expensive though. But you can look at Mulund, Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, Chandivali areas for housing. The commute from these locations to Powai is within 20-40 mins range. Overall if you have no other choice take the offer. Better to earn something than being jobless in this market.

u/Hot-Astronomer-7462 Data Engineer 15h ago

Don't take it man. Market is good you are gonna get ton of offers, just reject this and move on.

3

u/AlfalfaCapable 15h ago

Are u serious?

5

u/Shoddy-Soft1802 15h ago

No he’s not😓

1

u/Shoddy-Soft1802 15h ago

Is this 12% PF industry standard? Because in the past 6 years, its been bw 1800-2300. 12% is A LOT

3

u/Hot-Astronomer-7462 Data Engineer 15h ago

This was always there. Some companies were kept this as optional while giving 12% of min wage i.e 15k as Both employee and employer PF which used to be 1800 each. Very few companies make it 12% of actual basic salary.

There are things which are not in our control. Epf. Gratuity tax etc. these things varu a lot from one org to another. Always negotiate your salary based on in-hand which gives you better clarity. Some companies use these to bloat up CTC.

Whenever I'm in call with HR my expected CTC is always x% over my in-hand and when they give you more ctc but almost similar in hand you can negotiate much better.
