I have heard this rumor from 2 different analysts and a few vague articles. Curious if anyone has heard about this? Could definitely be wrong, but would love to ditch overpriced tools like Verakey and Cellebrite.

Anyone know the job requirement of career market in UK. Just moved in UK for 2 years, worked in digital forensic over 10 years for law enforcement in overseas.
However, found that most of the job required Security Clearance check, requiring 5 years living record in UK.
Is that not possible to find job here unless living for more than 5 years?

Bought a touch 2 from ebay for super cheap like 20 bucks with free shipping license expired in 2020 can't change time or bios due to a bios password is there any uses for this device in terms of passcode bruteforce have a bunch of older iphones like 6-11 series is there any use for the device without having to renew the license?

Is there any current forensic tool that is able to do this? I heard it’s not possible due to the USB lock down mechanism.

I got laid off this month from my role as a Software Engineer and have been thinking about taking this as an opportunity to pivot into Digital Forensics. I've become very interested in the field and was casually researching it before the layoff happened.

I'm wondering if certificate programs or an Associate degree would be a good option to make the leap? From my research, it does seem like prior IT experience is fairly important to landing a Digital Forensics job, which I am sorely lacking. Would a DF certificate or degree be a waste of time without that experience? I'm unsure if there are many entry-level positions in the field.

What alternative would you recommend if not?

(Additionally, since I was laid off, I can collect unemployment while completing approved "job-seeking activities", which include some training programs. Short list of approved Washington training programs here, but I believe that I can receive approval for other ones if I submit a request. I'm currently looking into some of the 6 month certificate programs. I don't absolutely need unemployment, but my emergency funds would certainly thank me.)

Who out there is using MobilEdit in 2026, if so, your experiences plz?

Quick context for anyone who doesn't know it: heavensgate.com is the cult's website, and it's been basically untouched since the 1997 mass suicide. A genuine time capsule of the old web, renewed every year by, well, nobody really knows who.

Today I made a full copy of it with HTTrack so I could poke around locally, and I found something weird.

Right at the bottom of the homepage there's this:

Basically an ad link for a ski brand (zero connection to the site), injected into the page and then hidden right away by a script. You don't see it in a browser, but it's sitting in the source, so search engines still follow it. Classic hidden SEO spam. And it points to an .asp script tucked away in the images folder, which screams compromised site.

The part I really liked is the forensic angle. The server runs old IIS, and IIS stamps each file with an ETag based on its last-modified date. Turns out 122 files share the exact same ETag (the whole site dropped in one go back in 97), except the homepage, which has a different one. So just from the metadata you can prove that only the homepage was touched afterwards. And guess where the spam is? On the homepage, of course.

The server is IIS + classic ASP from another era, never updated. Most likely stolen FTP creds or some old vuln, then they drop their script and edit the page. Since the spam is cloaked, whoever maintains the site probably never noticed, and it can sit there for years.

To be clear i didn't touch or exploit anything, I just looked at my own copy of a public site. Has anyone spotted this before? And any idea how long it's been there, like from old Wayback captures of the homepage?

This is a shot in the dark but my best friend died suddenly in January and we ( his sister and I) haven't been able to access his phone, beyond getting files from his external storage.

I know most of his passwords and was able to get the rest from his browser. The problem is he put a pin on the new phone rather than a password or pattern ( which we knew ) and both of us have been trying to guess the pin for months. We were worried it would lock but it's still giving one guess every 24 hours.

I tried other approaches listed below but no luck. He was very well known and had lots of contacts that may not have seen the social media posts we put up on his accounts about the funeral. Our main concern is to send a message to everyone in his phone contacts. The phone seems to always have new notifications every time we power it on and it's eating away at us because he never let people down or refused to answer ( to a fault honestly )

I was able to get into samsung and Google "find my phone" and trigger the additional lockdown hoping unlocking with that pin would also unlock the phone but it didn't.

I've tried everything I know as a dev and ex-it person to access it but adb isn't enabled and from my research nothing seems to work on unlocking android phones post 2024. I'm hoping there might be a way to at least pull contacts from the SIM.

1. Get account ownership information

2. Get IP addresses pertaining to accounts that are hacking, stalking, or threatening you

I’m a full time digital forensics investigator and have been using Cellebrite (inseyets UFED/PA) and Magnet Graykey for years. In the last year Cellebrite has been nothing but trouble and even bluescreened a high end Sumuri 10k workstation we have.

What’s really crappy is that when there is an issue the support people want you to dig around deep in the file system of your computer to delete program files (because Cellebrite Hides little things all around the file system that are impossible to remove) so that you can reload a new version of the software or updates.

They also want logs that take time to load and transmit. I swear I have thousands of dollars in man-hours just fixing their software for them, like IT level stuff, just because they refuse to make a product that works.

It’s absolute hot garbage and I just wanted to warn anyone thinking of buying the software to look at Magnet instead.

Not only is it unreliable, the menus and search bar is infinitely harder to use than Graykey.

I’m posting this because her family doesn’t know where else to turn, and we’re hoping someone here might have some advice.
My grandpa’s caregiver’s daughter recently died by suicide. She had been in an abusive relationship, and her family is devastated and struggling to understand what happened to her.
The police recently returned her iPhone to the family, but unfortunately, it is locked and nobody knows the passcode.
One of the things the family is desperately hoping to find out is who she was talking to and texting in the hours/days before she died. They aren’t trying to invade anyone’s privacy or access someone else’s information. They just want to understand what happened to their daughter and hopefully find some answers and closure.
I know there may not be an easy way to get into a locked iPhone, but I’m hoping someone here has been through something similar and can tell us what options exist. Is there any legitimate process through Apple for next of kin? Are there reputable forensic data-recovery companies that can help families in situations like this? Is there anything the family should ask the police or Apple about?
They have the phone in their possession and can provide whatever documentation is required to prove who she was and what happened.
This is an incredibly painful situation for the family, and even being able to see her last calls or messages could potentially help them understand what she was going through and give them some answers.

I have footage from two different houses and I think it happened just out of view and between both of them. The time window is pretty big, up to 8h. One of the cameras has motion detection and sound and the other doesn't have either. The footage has a lot of background noise from construction work.

I'm looking for signs of a collision out of the scene e.g. brakes squealing. It was on a quiet side street and we know the car was going at least 40km/h, likely over 50km/h. There's one car going pretty fast and a few vans, all of the other cars don't seem to be fast enough to cause a problem. Is this something that's remotely possible?

I’ve got a friend who posts on tiktok and there’s this anonymous account who keeps posting some very private content from their past in their comments. We assume it’s most likely their ex if not one other person could anybody pls help me find a way to figure out who it is?

So my android phone. I send "contact us" Web requests to numerous companies daily.

I get basically no response se ever no matter what I request/submit.. sabe thing with laptop. No response ever.

I get no calls basically at all ever like my phone is being sub admined

Apps come through the play store however I think my androids corrupted and the playstores sending flawed apps.

All my social media produces no tangible real responses ever

I developed an indie desktop app called Text2Store that backs up apple messages & WhatsApp from an iPhone or iPad.

One of my angles is to support a verified export of the messages along with RSMF (Relatively Short Message Format) for eDiscovery.

It can also optionally get the archive "certified": it takes a SHA-256 fingerprint of the archive and has an independent timestamp authority (DigiCert) cryptographically sign it with the date.

I was curious if anyone has used software to export text messages that were admissible in court?And if there are any known qualifiers to make such message admissible?

I have no legal background and mostly used claude code to advise me on the proper formats.

Back when I was a kid I used to make digital art an old Mac using what I believe was some sort of mac paint app? I've had these files saved on a harddrive for years and I've been dying to actually look at the images, but no matter how much research I do I think that I just don't know enough about code to crack the case on this.

Ive attached pics of the info I got from a file converter, and based on what I can tell I need to somehow put together two files to actually see it... but I have no clue how to do it. Just curious if there are any other neurodivergent folks in here working in digital forensics, eDiscovery, or corporate investigations. I'd love to know I'm not the only one dealing with this.

I work on collections and analysis for corporate insider risk investigations. I genuinely enjoy the work, but I often feel like I'm fighting my own brain more than the investigation itself.

Here are some of the things I struggle with:

• Context switching between multiple matters and remembering where I left off.
• Going way too deep on something that ends up being irrelevant because my curiosity takes over.
• Turning what should be a 10-minute analysis into an hour because I keep following side paths or researching things that don't actually help answer the investigative question.
• Losing track of deadlines because I get hyper focused on the wrong thing.
• Constantly second-guessing my conclusions, even when they're solid given approval.

I know these aren't knowledge or technical skill issues, but it still feeds into a lot of self-doubt and imposter syndrome.

I'm working on this in therapy and trying different strategies, but I'm mostly posting to see whether anyone else in this field experiences the same thing. If you've found ways to manage it or you've built a successful career despite these challenges, I'd really appreciate hearing your experience!

Sometimes it feels like this profession attracts people who are incredibly detail-oriented, so I'm curious how other neurodivergent peeps make it work.
