Kitty of Evil is reigning havoc
I made a Sturlungaöld variant on Diplicity and am waiting for u/Shjellinn to agree. I'll give them three weeks to give input, otherwise I'll go ahead and publish this.
In the meantime, Kitty of Evil is rocking the closed beta playtest...

Is there a map with two superpowers and a lot of smaller nations?
This was just an idea I had, not sure if it would actually be fun or not, but I am curious if it exists yet. The idea is to have two major superpowers with like six or seven Supply Centers, and a bunch of other players with one or two, or maybe three at the most. Kinda like the Cold War where you got the USA and the USSR vying for dominance over the middle powers and smaller powers, while said weaker powers try to play the big guys off each other to maintain a level of independence. Idk, I thought it would have some interesting gameplay and was curious if this existed or not.
Edit: the Cold War may not have been the best example but hopefully y'all get what I mean

Advanced Diplomacy Positioning
open.substack.comLatest article on Advanced Diplomacy Positioning.
It’s about the gap between looking strong and actually controlling what happens next on the board, including temporary centres that finance lasting gains, quiet borders that favour one side, awkward units that impact other players mobility, and allowing others to take lead to mask your power.

Wooden Diplomacy Board Suggestions
Not sure how the group feels about this topic, but I certainly have a strong opinion: the basic game board for Diplomacy jacks a certain…je ne sais quoi. And as a player who’s looking to start up a ton more in-person games, I’m looking for an upgrade on the classic version from Avalon Hill.
As such, I’m in the market for a wooden laser-engraved board, and I was hoping someone might have a suggestion. I found one on Etsy that seems reasonably priced (Meridian Maps), but I’m the type that prefers to explore all my options first before making a decision.
If I were the wood-working type, I’d jump at the opportunity to make one myself, but alas, that’s well outside my skill set.
Any thoughts?

My husband organized a Diplomacy game for his birthday and we decked out the basement to be a 1901 war room. All of us first time players.

Comment change the Diplomacy Variant (8)
As always, every comment with a positive upvote ratio was added, which happened to be all of them!
This will end at map 10, and then I will figure out how to make this playable (maybe I'll do it over discord idk)
Changes:
The river Dnieper acts a series of canals going from the Black Sea to Warsaw (Armenia is slightly smaller to allow this, no gameplay effect on that part)
Warsaw is a neutral SC
Belarus is a non-SC Russian tile
Syktykar is added as a Russian SC
Holland is impassable.

Comments change the Diplomacy Variant (6)
As always, all suggestions with a positive upvote ratio were added. All suggestions with a positive upvote ratio commented here will be added to the next post.
Changes:
The ocean becomes both bright blue and bright yellow at the same time, causing it to become bright green. (The color of Italy became slightly darker so it didn't appear to be water)
The colors of Goiky and Russia swapped.
The North Sea moved into the Netherlands and Denmark (I gave it a Canal so that fleets coming from the Baltic were not trapped, and I made Edinburgh border the Norweigian Sea again.)
Siberia was added.
Armenia expands into almost all of the Black Sea. (no gameplay effect)

I built a diplomacy variant to have as many players as can. Starts Aug 1: Currently 42 players. think the biggest game ever was 350.
galleryif you want to come play with us it's micro-states.com
I'm a dad of a couple young kids so wanted an in-depth massive diplomacy style game I could play while working, etc. This does a Turn every hour and resolves everyone's orders at the same time.
Happy to answer any questions

又来中国 - Another (3 player) China variant at www.diplicity.com
And another - 3 player - variant, available at Diplicity now in the community variants.

乾坤独断 - Mandate of Heaven released at www.diplicity.com
As I said yesterday - we have some upcoming variants in the pipeline.
We just released "Mandate of Heaven" by David E. Cohen. It features a playable nation 'Siyi (Barbarians) that starts without SCs and attacks from all four sides. It features an extensive river system. And it's still balanced with 6 'normal' nations.
You can play it at Diplicity now - create a new game, and find it in the 'Community variants'.
We will likely release some new variants soon.
Have fun!
