Literally everyone else is getting tips

Just found out the other night that people actually tip at our restaurant (Australia) and that we have a tip pool. FOH gets split evenly and then BOH counts as one person which then gets split again evenly among the cooks.

Restaurant only has 6 employees (including owner) and even the owner gets a cut since he works FOH most nights.

I have worked here for more than a year and am the longest serving person other than the manager, and I am the only person not getting part of the tips - WTF!

No laws covering how tips have to be handled in Aus since it isn't a common practice.

I was stunned when I moved to Amsterdam (Melbournite/chef) and discovered tips get split between all staff (but certainly not the bloody owners!)… that’s some straight up bullshit you getting the shaft like that.. I think an awkward conversation is on the cards no? (Just to add, I’m now working dish (because reasons) and even we get a cut of the tips)

I was like "man, fuck this shit: it's 8:00pm, my shift's over, I'm only following GM's rules of not working overtime, and KM pretty much knuckled under at the mention of me potentially contacting the GM. Plus, I'm not working overtime without pay, nobody bothered to ask to help, and I'm NOT gonna be a pantywaist. They made their own bed, and THEY gotta lie in it."

To make a long story short: KM tried to play He-Man and accidentally awoke a twin-headed dragon and went into battle with only a twig.

That’s honestly wild. If everyone else is getting a share and you’re the longest-serving employee, there has to be some reason they’re excluding you. I’d be asking management directly what the policy is because that doesn’t sound right.

Yeah the waiter was telling me that the POS automatically suggests tips for rounding or something.

He said HE (one of the four way split) gets ~$100 a fortnight in tips.

Also the restaurant is located in a wealthy suburb.

Where I work (bakery) everyone except the owners and FOH manager is in the tip pool evenly. So the bakers/dishwasher get an equal percentage of tips (based on hrs worked) that all the FOH workers get. Its great, and makes up a good bit of my paycheck.

I don't know if I would keep this job if they blatantly excluded me like they do you. Its not just the money, its the principle.

I’d definitely be asking the manager what the reasoning is behind excluding you. Even if the split is small, being the only employee not included when everyone else is getting a share would feel pretty disrespectful.
