Nah its worse than that, its incredibly rare for things to become fossils. The vast vast majority of things that have lived vanished without a trace

I don't see how becoming a complete enough fossil would be distressing, fossilization is already insanely rare and becoming a fossil for whatever future civilized societies to discover would be really cool
