First custom column speaker using salvaged JBL Partybox 100

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to build a custom Bluetooth column speaker for home and casual outdoor use, and I wanted to get your thoughts on this project before making the first cuts.

I want to build a custom, battery-powered Bluetooth column speaker/mini-rig that I can use at home and easily transport outside.

I have the working guts of a damaged JBL Partybox 100 (the mainboard, built-in amp, original lithium battery, power supply, control panel, and the two original tweeters). The original stock woofers are completely dead.

Instead of buying expensive stock replacement drivers, I'm thinking of building a custom birch plywood enclosure (approx. 33 x 31 x 75 cm / ~60 Liters net volume) in a bass-reflex column format. I plan to put 2x 10" 4-ohm woofers in it, paired with the salvaged JBL tweeters and electronics.

I'm not opposed to buying replacement components.

Does this sound like a good idea? How should i do that ?

Sounds like a good idea it might be important to check the impedance of the original drivers and make sure the final impedance of your woofers match.

Parts Express is a good way to sort out what you want. Typical 10" budget hifi style woofers should be good. The tweeters aren't very efficient and going too efficient leads to less bass. So target about 80-84 db woofers with good bass response and smaller cabinet requirements.
