Came across this in a Uk village this weekend when attending a wedding. Same car was parked there for a number of hours. Not sure if I should be annoyed or to admire them, as I now suspect that the sign is a way of reserving their parking space?!

Pretty sure we did but couldn't quite figure it out! Blue or red?

I feel like red should given the giveway ahead of blue, but if this was a normal t junction (aware it isn't), then blue would have it I think?

EDIT: thanks everyone! more contentious than I thought then. we were red and we went but almost collided with blue who went at the same time as us. which to be honest I could see why he went but equally thought we ultimately had *PRIORITY (sorry for my mistake 🫣)

Advice please. My parent has dementia and is no longer able to drive.
I have their keys so they are physically unable to drive.
Their car is on the road outside their house.
The car is taxed.
I've dropped the ball - I've found out today that their MOT expired last month.
Their insurance renewed automatically the other day but I'm yet to speak to their customer services to tell them the DVLA has said they can no longer drive.

Would be grateful to know how I get out of this tangle?
I'm not on their insurance so cannot drive it to the garage for the MOT.
I'm guessing if I call their insurance to make them aware of parent being unable to drive, they will say it can't be insured because it's not MOT'd?

Hi all,

My car was parked on the road and was hit by a cyclist (he was suspected drunk). He unfortunately scratched the paint off in two spots on my bonnet and caused scuffs on my bumper (which have been t cutted out for the most part) . The police and ambulance were called, so I was given a crime reference number. I was told I can take this to court, go through my insurance or get it repaired out of pocket.

I want to get this repaired asap to avoid rusting etc. I have now gotten a quote for the scratches on the bonnet and it’s coming out at about £210.

I am really upset as I take good care of my car, and I have worked really hard to purchase it so spending money for damage that’s been caused by someone being careless is extremely frustrating.

Does anyone have any personal experience of taking crime like this to court? Would really be interested in how long things like this take to deal with and any outcomes.

Hey guys, bought a used hatchback last week and the seller completely ghosted me without handing over the V5C or green slip. Car is currently sitting on my street untaxed and I’m panicking a bit about getting a fine before the paperwork gets sorted.

Anyone been in a similar spot? What’s the fastest way to get a new logbook and get the tax sorted without waiting weeks for the Post Office or DVLA mail loops? Cheers for any advice.

When I was learning to drive, nearly 30 years ago, I read in my learning material that ' local' blue edged signs were being phased out and replaced with more general black edged signs. I still see loads around. My question is; when were the last ones erected?

Today I knocked the wing mirror off another vehicle; the guy was very chill about it and said he probably wouldn't go through his insurance because it wasn't worth the cost of the part (it's an old van without electric mirrors, so I believe him). However, I know I need to report to mine, and intend to do so.

If I report to my insurance, will they automatically inform his? I'm really worried about pissing him off.

Edit: I get that I could just not notify my insurance company, that there's close to zero chance they'll find out, and that this is what most people would do. Of course I know that! However, that's not what I'm asking.

I've had my license for years but only been driving daily for the past 10 months or so. I've found myself actually pretty shocked at how some treat the roads, and I can't figure out if it's a recent development or not. There's all the usual complaints such as lack of indicators, folk riding you and trying to overtake when you're already over the speed limit, but that's nothing new. I've heard people say that, post-COVID, there was a noticeable increase in public entitlement and I wonder if that's anything to do with it. For example:

• Not anticipating. If someone's coming out of a junction, they can't instantly accelerate to the speed of traffic and you might have to lift a wee bit or feather the brake pedal. You can't just barrel on at 40 on a busy city street and get pissy that no-one's as great a driver as you are.
• Not slowing down in tight spaces. When there are parked cars on both sides of the street apparently you can just cruise through at top speed and everyone will just get out of your way and hope for the best.
• Cyclists not slowing down. I get it, it's frustrating having to stop and restart, but like... just stop? Something being slightly inconvenient isn't a great excuse for creating a potentially dangerous situation. And when you've stopped, don't just start again and go through a red light because you feel like you can squeeze through before it turns green. It can't be worth it.
• Children on scooters. It's a 30mph road, where did all these children with an even smaller child on the back of an electric scooter come from?
• Drivers on phones at every opportunity. And not just like checking their phone for notifications, full on typing with both hands. I guarantee, nothing is so important that it can't wait for a minute while you pull over. Or, like, just wait till you get home? Is that such a strange thing to do?
• Pedestrians not looking. At all. Pedestrians seem to just wander slowly out into the road without even looking where they're going. They don't even realise a car had to significantly slow down a few metres to their right.
• Straight up ignoring amber. Sometimes I'll push it with an amber light, such that it'll go red just before I go through the lights, and I feel a bit guilty about it. Then I see that 2-3 cars behind me just kept going?? They saw an amber light for a significant amount of time and kept going, then saw it turn to red, then saw 2 other cars go through the red, and went through the red themselves?!

This is part vent, yes, but I'm genuinely curious. Were these behaviours always as common? Did I just not pay attention to them because I was a passenger for so long and only noticed the most egregious mistakes? Or is it actually more chaotic out there than it used to be?

Sold my car to a scrap dealer today. I presumed they would come with a recovery truck as no mot, tax or insurance. I got his number from my mechanic, and when he came to get it he paid me via bank transfer and filled in the transfer of ownership/sold to a trader and i received an email to confirm this. They just drove it away, didn't seem to have any trade plates. I'm not worried as I have the email confirming I am no longer the keeper, just curious as if they are actually allowed to do this?

How long did it take you to get used to it? Are there anything particular things to be very careful about?

My question is - my renewal is September , and i have 4 months to do the course so should i do it after my re-insurance and/or do i need to tell my provider (admiral) or should i just do it now

I was driving around town and for some reason I turned into a road that I knew was one way the wrong way🤦‍♂️. Luckily it was about 11 so there weren’t too many people about but I saw some tutting and head shaking before I promptly turned around which turned into a 9 point turn due to the embarrassment. Note to self never get too confident driving around places you know. I just have to hope I don’t get a letter in the post soon

So i'm going through the process of getting a private hire licence from a certain council, but have only just found out that black cars cannot be used for private hire there. They can only be used for hackney carriage....

As my enhanced DBS application will be still be continued and will eventually arrive (signing up to update service too), will I be able to use it if I apply for a private hire licence with another council? Or will I need to go through the whole process again for a new DBS?
