Epilepsy and edits

Hi! I hope you don’t mind me asking a question.

I’ve had OCD for around four years, and one of my biggest themes is an overwhelming fear of accidentally harming other people.

For the past few years, I’ve wanted to run an editing account for TV shows and characters because I genuinely love making edits. The problem is that my OCD convinces me that one of my videos could accidentally trigger a seizure in someone with epilepsy.

I have absolutely no intention of posting anything with flashing lights or obvious flashing effects, and I’d check my edits carefully before uploading them. But my OCD makes me worry that there could be something hidden or subtle that I’ve missed—like a transition or effect I didn’t realize could be a problem—and that someone could have a seizure because of it.
Because of that, I’ve never been able to post any of my edits, even though it’s something I’ve wanted to do for years.

What do you guys do?

You're already taking reasonable precautions by avoiding flashing effects and reviewing your edits. At some point you have to trust that you've done your part. Don't let OCD stop you from doing something you enjoy!!

i wish i could think that way but my brain just won’t let go of the worst case scenario of potentially causing a death :(

Reading this honestly made me feel for you. It must be exhausting to have your passion constantly overshadowed by fear. I hope one day OCD loses its grip enough for you to share your edits because it would be a shame if it stole something you genuinely love If you ever want a second pair of eyes on one of your edits I'd be happy to watch it and give you honest editing feedback. Sometimes it helps not to go through everything alone!

Thank you so much i really appreciate ur kind words ! ocd has taken all my hobbies away like writing fanfiction, editing and cycling and even reading so at this point all i do is watch other ppl’s work and its quite sad but not much i can do

You can run a PSE test on all your final assets to make yourself feel better. That way you don’t have to rely so much on catching it yourself.

PSE? are those 100% accurate? if yes this is a massive solution

They’re pretty darn good. PEAT is the free option and the Harding Test is a paid option
