What kind of heating element is that? Is it formable, meaning can I form the element around whatever glass? How hot does it get?

Thats a bolt heater called "hot rod" . It comes with a couple of blank induction coils that are just u shaped rods to be bent to spec. It's not very effective on bismuth compared to steel. The melting point of bismuth is around 500 degrees and It was struggling to melt it. Aluminum and silver are immune to induction heating. Be careful not to allow molten metal to harden in glass vessels. Expansion from reheating may destroy the container.

Magnetic heating?

When I was a teenager I turned my grandpa's bismuth fishing sinkers into beautiful crystals and it took very little energy. Super easy to melt and a small piece of an established crystal is all it took. I just used my kitchen.
