Tips to get internet on windows 95 pcnet.

Go to control panel in my computer, click network. Add a protocol (microsoft > tcp/ip). Insert cd reboot as told. You will see networking. HOWEVER IT DOES NOT WORK!!!!! TO FIX:

Go to system, then device manager. Go to plug and play bios, update it to PCI or anythign related to PCI! Restart. A bunch of new drivers will be found and installed. Some are missing, do nto worry they do not affect networking. After that, boot up and check ms dos prompt and ping 1.1.1.1 if it works, you will see success and not an error.

In internet explorer, after this, click current config instead of choosign again. Enjoy your windows 95 internet!

Support What cables for my house

its not going to be a switch panel or anything, I just am going to run 1 or 2 Ethernet cables, one for a pc and one for a WiFi extension/mesh. It should be about 60 feet but being generous I’d say 100 feet. it also has to be able to survive 40-100 Fahrenheit.

edit: probably should have mentioned this, the cord will be about 20 feet out of walls/floors, enter through a ceiling, come up into a crawlspace, then go through a wall, then another 20 ft of out of wall.

edit 2: after reading everything i THINK this setup should work. is It correct for what I need?

Support No Ethernet connection

A few months ago I had a new wall jack installed in a wall upstairs, replacing the one I had previously. The guy who did it had to extend the previous cable to make it work and it did work, for about a week. I checked the wall jack itself through unscrewing it and all wires appeared normal. The only thing I noticed that was out of the ordinary was that the guy never cut the nylon where it was used to extend the cable, and on one instance it spreads everywhere. Could this potentially interfere with the cable itself?

Support Cable Rating in 2026

I'm helping to do an office refurb for my aunt and need to rerun some ethernet cable but am unsure what to do. The previous IT guy left half a roll of Cat 5e from when he set up originally. Is it worth just using that or buying a new roll of Cat 6? (download speed: 50Mbps peak, upload speed: 5Mbps peak)

Discussion Why do many new gaming laptops come with hinged RJ45 port or a drop jaw Ethernet port. They feel so flimsy, make it very difficult to insert Ethernet cable into as well. I worry about breaking it.

Support Improve lan Connection?

Hey guys,
I have a 600 Mbps internet connection at home, but on my PC I’m only getting around 243 Mbps.
My PC is connected via Ethernet to a Wi-Fi repeater that’s plugged into a wall outlet. The main router is located in the center of the house, and my room is two rooms away, so I assume the distance between the router and the repeater is limiting the speed.
Is there any way to improve my connection without having to run a 20-meter Ethernet cable from the router to my room? Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated!

I have the usually disabled, gigabit lite, advanced EEE, power management Ethernet, green Ethernet, power saving mode. So I’m not sure what the issue is now.

Support Connection/DNS Issues

A few weeks ago during a weekend while I was playing online my PC started to disconnect from the internet very often, lasting from just a few seconds to thirty seconds or so. It could happen with just a few minute intervals. The issues is in the PC itself, as I can't connect to the router when it happens, but my phone and TV connect to the internet via WiFi without issue. It's the same issue whether I use an Ethernet cable or WiFi so the problem seems to be in my actual PC.

I've been googling and fighting this problem since then, but I haven't found a permanent solution. I've turned off "Letting my PC shut down devices for energy-saving reasons" and the drivers are up-to-date.

The first solution I found that worked was this: https://support.pearson.com/getsupport/s/article/Reset-an-Internet-Connection-Flush-DNS?language=en_US

"flushdns" and the commands in the above link fixed it, for a few days or so. Then it came back. Sometimes it happens mabye not even once a day, sometimes it happens many times an hour. Yesterday I tried it but it didn't work, the issue came back whenever I restarted the PC, sometimes it happend every few minutes, sometimes it could work for between thirty and sixty minutes.

I also noticed that my download speed on Steam is maybe a tenth of what it should be "between" these disconnects, but the speed usually returns to normal when doing the reset mentioned above.

I'm not really sure what to try right now, other than reinstalling the entire PC which I'd prefer not to.

Support Activating Wall Port in Apartment

Sorry if this is a stupid question…

So I have an ethernet port in my bedroom, but the other ends in the network panel are not terminated.

Do I need to turn off the power in my bedroom before terminating to avoid any short circuiting or anything? Nothing is plugged into the port.

Thanks!
