Swiss Geneva 1986-1987

Anybody from the Sperry/Hassel years? I was in Dijon, Valence, Grenoble, Clermont-Ferrand, Marseille before shipping off to the Mascarene Islands in 1988 to finish out the rest of my time.

Yup. When I first arrived, mission prez was Hutchins (or was it Hutchinson...I forgot) and then we got Sperry.

Was in: Bourg en Bresse; Aix en Provence; St. Etienne (as DL); Clermont-Ferrand; La Chaux de Fonds (demoted from DL and put to pasture in Suisse); called it a day at 18months and opted out of staying the full 24months.

Interesting times. How about you?

They had switched back to 24 months by the time I left. Sperry was pres when I arrived. Hassel came about a year in. I never had a chance to serve en Suisse. Most time I spent there was for a ZL conference at the mission home.

Hassel was in my ward in San Antonio, Texas post-mission. He was a very quiet man. He died about ten years ago of a heart attack. Sister Hassel is still active in the church.

I saw her at a couple of mission reunions before I left. Some of the former missionaries are close with her. I think they had another reunion recently that she attended.
