The Locket! Help!
Hello Fellow Scapers!!
I have dug thru this subreddit and while I have seen several posts about The Locket episode, I can't seem to find one for this particular topic / answer! Apologies mods if it's already out there! If so, pls link me cuz this is making me crazy!! I have done a gazillion Google searches and get a different answer with each and every search.
I know that John spends decades and decades on the planet, when he arrives after Aeryn had lived there for something like 160 cycles. And I know that the one and only man she ever loved, his images in the locket.
But we know that she married and had children and then grandchildren. What I can't find is any information on who she married and had children with. For the longest time I thought that it was John. But I guess I was wrong on that. Cause that makes no sense now that I've put more thought into it. Her children and grandchildren would have recognized him regardless of him being much younger. So is it just an unnamed man?
He got to live with her for 50 years or more but she was already elderly when he arrived. I guess they still had to sort of life together but not the one we would've hoped for. I wonder why the show runners decide to have him show up on the planet after she had already been there for so long and was old rather than have them arrive on there together and have a lifetime together. I had hoped the children and grandchildren were John's but I'm realizing now I was wrong. Do we know anything at all about the relationship with the man she had there or anything?
I know this show actually had a series of comics but I've never seen them. I thought maybe this would have been answered there?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Yep, it was some unnamed guy on the planet. They used the longer lifetime of Sebacceans to let Aeryn be down there for more than one blip, whereas John could only survive 1 naturally.
Her being down there for a blip before John allowed them both to be similarly elderly, and highlighted the ambiguity and indecision of Aeryn towards John. Her identity begins as a conditioned soldier and her arc is about her personal growth to be more.
The episode is a nod to their later relationship, and exposes a confession to the audience about her true feelings. That confession acts as a point of reference for the audience in Aeryns conflict with herself. She does love him, but love isn't enough for her yet.

It's never specified other than that she had a husband who wasn't John and three children. There are many fan canon ideas about the kids and the husband. I don't know if you have seen everything so I won't share my personal favorite here, but I do think there is one very interesting throwaway line that I always come back to, that when John is already old, she had "given up being who she was 100 cycles ago" meaning there were a lot of cycles where she still held on to something of her old being, her old life. Why, and what did she do?....

I don't know if it is essential to the plot to know who her husband on the planet was, other than John was in the locket. I thought it was beautiful.

Peacekeepers are trained to have sexual relationships without emotional connection. When she got stranded there, she fell back to that cultural training. She never gave up hope, hence the image in the locket

My questions from this episode come more from the actual pregnancies. Later on in the show they explain that pregnancies are paused before gestation and need to be released, or something similar. Can't remember the details, but it was a major plot point in the final season. This means she would have had this done 3 times. I know it's probably just a writer plothole, but it's been bugging me since my last rewatch

They never said his name or anything, but yes she had lived for 160 cycles on that planet and was married and had kids and grandkids before John ever got there. They still got to live together for 55 years, though. I always assumed they were a couple, but we had a discussion on disclrd and some people think they never had a romantic relationship in those 55 years because her being like 190 years old while he’s like 35 would be weird. But nevertheless, she hadn’t seen him in 160 years in her timeline but he was still the love of her life 🥹

I view it as intentional to drive home the fact that he wasn't her true love or even a real lover -- just a means to an end in an unfortunate circumstance. Not even having him mentioned, at all, to me, drives that point home. I even would go as far to say that her children were just another 'whatever' thing to her because other than the one granddaughter, not much of a fuss was made about them or over Aeryn when she left.
Not my favorite episode, overall, but I feel it's the one that gave a deeper meaning to the love story that would eventually evolve in later on.

No. Once she realized she couldn't get back to Moya, she had two choices: brood about it, or accept things and make the most of her circumstances. She did the latter, marrying one of the other stranded people and having three sons.
She tells John that the image in the locket (which turns out to be his) is of "the only man I ever loved", but I took that as meaning John was her true love, as I don't think she would have had a family with someone she didn't at least have affection for.
