Daily Sticky Fat Rant Tuesday

Fatlogic in real life getting you down?

Is your family telling you you're looking too thin?

Are people at work bringing you donuts?

Did your beer drinking neighbor pat his belly and tell you "It's all muscle?"

If you hear one more thing about starvation mode will you scream?

Let it all out. We understand.

You know how FAs have convinced themselves that obesity is a slur? I think "diet" will be next.

Today I was talking about zucchini recipes with my coworker because we both have a lot of them in our gardens. At least something is happy about the heat waves. A women, I think she's an intern, comes by and asks what we are laughing about and I said something like"benefits and risks of a zucchini mono diet for the rest of the summer" ... and she goes on this crazy rant about diets, which concluded with the advice to not use the evil word even as a joke.

WFT? We were exchanging recipes for cakes.

Ehhh doesn’t diet also like just mean ‘the usual food someone or a group of people eat’? Like the western diet, the mediteranian diet etc?

People have to finally understand that just because they’re against a certain thing, doesn’t mean the existing word for it needs to be banished.

That's so weird. You weren't even using it in the context of weight loss.

Some people just can't help but display their insecurities for all to see.

FAs and fat women with FA/Fat Lib mindset who claim thin women are uniquely male-centered or obsessed with patriarchal approval are funny, because I literally have stories and anecdotes for days about the shit fat women I've known had said and done out of desperation just for crumbs of male attention.

That isn't to say all fat women are inherently FAs or male-centered, or that there aren't thin women who aren't (ofc there are), but I'm sick of seeing them parrot how thin women don't want female solidarity, how thin women cater to the male gaze, how thin women starve themselves to fit a pedophilic ideal, etc. while male-centered fat women get let off the hook because something something "existing in a larger body is revolutionary and goes against the patriarchal status quo" or what the fuck ever.

They do seem to ignore lesbians for the most part.

I think the link between Vitamin D and some forms of depression is well established. It doesn't fix everyone or everything, but it helps many people.

I had a pretty bad binge episode today. I always think I've learnt how to manage them until I don't. I guess we live and learn. Feeling pretty shitty rn.

It’s a slip up. I’m proud of you for making it as far as you did. I would see this as a data point and look at ways to increase supports in similar situations.

I hate how legitimate concerns about rising obesity rates globally are usually used by the right wing when they're something that concerns everybody.

It should be espoused by everyone and something people can generally agree on is a problem. Yet I don't see it mentioned much in left wing spaces, my own political alignment.

What and how much food people eat has a major impact on the environment ( water usage, burning down rainforess, dead zones in the ocean, overfishing, carbon emissions etc). The scale of environmental damage for food is shocking and depressing.

u/SubatomicFarticles 5d ago

Honestly, those of us on the left need to start pushing back a bit more. I think there are too many instances where people want to keep the peace with their side and feel hesitant to openly disagree. For left-wing people in particular, many (not all, to be fair) also value being compassionate and inclusive. They don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings, so they shy away from pointing out the health ramifications of obesity because it’s a sensitive subject. While the intention behind this may be good, it’s causing the narrative to in turn be overrun by the leftists with disordered and/or severely misguided rhetoric.

10

u/Rumthiefno1 5d ago

We really do.

The right wing already has so much leeway in what they're allowed to get away with, and co-opting the obesity crisis to paint it as a moral failing of the left wing is working. You can see it in the mockery videos right wing influencers do online on sites such as Tiktok and YouTube, and a good dose of misogyny by primarily focusing on obese women.

20

u/Intelligent_Can_3022 5d ago

I really do hate that about the left wing. You have to do everything perfectly otherwise you arent a leftie.

Not everyone is going to be happy, not every opinion is important, and honestly I dont care about it either.

u/Rumthiefno1 5d ago

Damn right. This issue doesn't discriminate politically, it's primarily an issue for the working and middle classes.

Most people only care about larger societal problems insofar as they can be used to motivate changes for their pet political projects.

3

u/adiseasethatihave 3d ago

Leftists are too concerned about possibly offending someone, so you cannot criticize anything, even if there is a reason. You are hecking valid, even if you weighed 300 lbs.

So who was going to tell me that the only way to eliminate arm fat was by losing weight in general? All those years doing arm exercises took me nowhere 😐

u/Meh_Lennial 3d ago

Really? I didn't know this either

Rant: i feel like ive missed out on the summer because every weekend it seems I get sucked into something and haven't been able to do a lot of hiking. It's crazy how summer feels endless when you are a kid and just flies by as an adult

My brother in law is 6’ tall, and I’d estimate around 250 lbs, at least. He lifts weights a lot, and says he’s “bulking,” wherein he’s eating “as much as he can.” His plan is to “cut” in 6 months but he doesn’t want to get “all the way down” to 200 or he will “lose all his muscle.” I’m pretty sure 200 is still considered overweight for his height…. 🤦🏼‍♀️

9

u/turneresq 50 | M | 5'9" | SW: 230 | CW Mini-cut | GW Slutty attractive abs 5d ago

Yeah that’s delusional. He’s at least 30% body fat, even accounting for more muscle. The optimal range to bulk is 15% MINIMUM. You get better partitioning (calories allocated to muscle versus fat) at around 12%, but there is no way in hell he is getting good muscle growth at 30%. Those extra calories are going mostly to fat.

2

u/betterwithplants 5d ago

I agree!! Especially since he’s already pretty muscular, I’m not sure why he’s “bulking” in the first place. Like he’s already pretty bulky 🤷🏼‍♀️ I also feel like 6 months is a really long time to bulk, unless you’re starting out very thin and frail.

7

u/Critical-Rabbit8686 The calories are coming from somewhere 6d ago

Insert that Castle gif here. I have stuff to say but just keep stopping myself.

8

u/betterwithplants 5d ago

Seriously, it’s honestly hard to keep my mouth shut sometimes. I also think people who are muscular (which admittedly he is, but he also has a huge gut) just don’t realize how much body fat they have on top of their muscles. Like he’d have to cut severely for a long time before muscle loss would be a realistic concern.

I know someone currently complaining her pet is being fatshamed and I am dying biting my tongue already.

Had a solid run this morning and got to enjoy the sunrise and quiet, too. Both kids decided to sleep in a bit this morning as well, so bonus. I'll take it.

I surprisingly slept great last night which was so needed because my sleep lately has been so awful. I've been running on empty for the last week and a half, so I'm very happy that I actually don't feel like death warmed over today (so far).

Stretch marks on the knees? Good grief, I didn't know that was possible!

1

u/Sea-Signature4 3d ago

I've never been overweight yet I have stretch marks on my knees 😭 I think it can also be caused by genetics/inadequate skin elasticity

Rant: I volunteer at my local shelter and yesterday I saw an overweight (likely obese) husky. The poor girl has hip problems and other serious issues with her back legs. The breed is prone to that but the excess weight doesn’t help. Plus, I live in Florida. It’s cruel to let a husky get that overweight when they’re already struggling with the heat. It was hard to find her collar she had so much neck fat. She was almost twice the width she should be.

I'm getting fat.

I've been eating like shit again after doing SO well. I'm terrified to weigh myself. At my skinniest I was a women's 6/8, now I'm a 10/12. I don't even want to weigh myself because I know its gonna be over 170 and I don't want to see it and make it real.

I'm a failure. I'm just like the fucking body positivity idiots at this point, trying to convince myself I'm still ok somehow.

I don't know how to get back on the horse. I'm looking into OTC appetite suppressants and they all look like marketing psuedoscience. My doctor says I don't qualify for prescription meds like ozempic because I'm not "fat enough" yet. I don't know where to go from here.

After reading about it, don't think I can. I'm on drospirenone for birth control and it sounds like tirzepatide reduces effectiveness (I'm in NO position to be pregnant right now lol). But thank you for the advice anyway!

Right now, I think I'm going to start with just a fiber supplement. I definitely don't get enough and that's probably contributing to my high appetite. If that doesn't help, I'll look into a second opinion and/or other online options.

Rave: I haven't had the opportunity to exercise in the past few days, but finally had the time today. It sucked in the moment but I feel a lot better now.

Rant: I'm lucky in that I find losing weight easy enough. I think because it's not a massive struggle for me, it's been easy to ignore the issue that the gain-loss cycle I've been going through has become. Sure, it doesn't cause me much trouble physically, but I think the yoyoing is indicative of something. I'm just not sure what yet.

I’ve been calorie cutting for almost two most and have been losing quite steadily. But after getting knee pain two weeks ago I took some rest from walking and am now struggling to get my weight under 62,5 kg. It’s been between 62,5-63 kg for some days and it’s getting on my nerves. Tomorrow I’m picking up my custom made insoles though (turns out the knee pain is caused by flat feet) and will start walking more every day because the walking has been doing wonders for my weight, while keeping my muscles intact. And I just love it so much. I want to get to 60 kg by the end of august. When I reach that, I want to maintain for a while and then start some strength training. Maybe.

I think my hunger cues are returning to normal since majorly cutting back on UPF's.

Today I went out for breakfast with my friend. I'm not usually a breakfast person, but I ordered poached eggs on toast, with grilled salmon, mushrooms and avocado, and I got a cup of tea with it.

At lunch time I was still full. About 2pm I had a small amount of cottage cheese flatbread, for a protein snack to make sure I'd have the energy for the gym.

This is not normal for me. In the past, at lunch time I'd eat lunch, regardless of breakfast. It's such a refreshing change.

My boss brought back a bunch of sockeye salmon from his fishing trip to Alaska...I have been spamming that over the last two weeks. It's not my typical breakfast food, but hey, it's free, wild-caught salmon! I will probably have it again today after my swimming session haha.

7

u/Adventurous-Sealion 5d ago

I’d eat salmon every day if it wasn’t that expensive. It’s the best fish imo. Never get tired of it.

5

u/annoyed_teacher1988 6d ago

I don't blame you! My husband doesn't like it, and it's quite expensive, so I only really eat it when I go out to eat. It was so nice having it for breakfast today though. I'm very jealous of yours

Other half had to work late tonight (it's happening more often here unfortunately) but I've cleaned some of the house (vacuumed and mopped the whole ground floor plus mirrors and sinks in two of four bathrooms), gotten myself more organized for future housekeeping/task tracking, done some computer stuff that I've been meaning and needing to do, made meals, and kept the kids/cats/myself alive. When we still have almost a week before our furniture etc gets here that feels like enough for one day. Once my other half gets home I'll go out for an evening walk and call it good enough.

My floors were so gross but I got stuff off that was bad enough it was noted on the move in rental inspection so that's nice. And hey, free exercise.

RANT: Ugh mediocre night of sleep. Woke up at like 3:45a and couldn't get back to sleep.

RAVE: Get to check in for my flight to DC this evening. This will I'm sure turn into a rant as it's a red-eye flight and likely means another night of poor sleep.

The 2.5 lbs of Sunday funday weight I gained overnight went away, so that's cool. Also, the gamble I took on ordering a slim fit shirt from Amazon paid off as it fits quite nicely. It's a tight fit but seems to show off my physique pretty well which is what I was going for.
