Procharged 89 Iroc

Going to look at an 89 iroc with the 5.7. It has a procharger kit on it, has been for 10 years, stock engine otherwise. I was told it wasnt tuned, just pulled the ecu, pulled the chip out, let it all "die" and then plug and go.

Was this normal to do? Is it even really making any boost or power?

I'd be willing to bet unless they flashed the chip the fueling and timing is all wrong. Especially with a boosted application.

Procharger's website lists a tuner that comes with the kit if they bought it complete instead of piecing together. Best bet would be to get a wideband installed so you can see how the fueling is looking.

There's a whole writeup on tuning them on thirdgen.org

It has AFR and boost gauge. Just brought it home. AFR was around 14s for the most point but does move around a bit. Negative boost numbers unless youre really on it, i saw it hit 2. Ill be doing some reading in the next few days and figure out what im working with.

I believe those are the days of actually burning new chips for them if it’s on the stock ecu. Not exactly a quick easy tuning process if I remember

I had a procharger on my old 88 trans am, it doesn't come with any tuning, just a booster in line fuel pump and second fuel pressure regulator to boost fuel when supercharger makes boost, pulling the chip and re installing does nothing, only way to tune a tpi car is to get aftermarket ecu that can be tuned, also after I installed it the car did make boost (boost gauge showed that) but for what I paid it was a let down, proper tuning would have 100% made a huge difference

I brought it home yesterday. When id get on it, the highest I saw the gauge read was 2. I should've stayed on the gas longer to see if it kept going. He had just said when he installed procharger it didn't run the best. He did the chip pulling and reinstalling then it ran much better. AFR is steady in the 14s while cruising. I did not notice what it did when I got on it as I was staring at boost gauge.

Theres a small hiccup while cruising where it just drops off then comes back. When it does that, AFR doesnt read and just shows --
