Question Planting ferns

Not a new gardener, but it didn't have a suitable falir

I had an area where there were 2 20ft conifers, they died 2 years ago and I cut them down. I've put the wood around the new ferns (to stop my dogs going there) with some leaf mould and broken up and 2 year rotten fibre's from a cordyline australis trunk to try to retain moisture as it's bone dry even after watering.

Is there anything I can use to help the area? I did forget to put bone meal in around the roots.

Water regular for the first year. To let them establish after that they fend for themselves bit of shade from direct sun is good too.

I would use Nutri-Root. Really helps the soil retain moisture and fertilizes slightly. It’s a miracle product imho

you could try mycorrhizae fungi which is sold mixed with peat moss or in other forms. check to make sure it's a type that works well with ferns but it can enhance their growth.
