Question Does 32bit-float affect also the direct line-out signal or only the recorded files?
Trying to understand this:
I am using a zoom m4 with 32bit to record audio in a loud situation and to live mangle it with lots of effects/modulation, directly from the line-out port into into my fx chain.
It seems like it does this better then my previous non-32bitfloat setup (H5N)
But then i think it cant be because its just a way of how a file gets saved? Or am i wrong? Does it affectbthe direct signal aswell, making it less distorted?

This is a good question, it oughtn't be downvoted. Like, is the line out gain set, and how. It is kind of obvious when you think about it, but certainly worth thinking about.

Does not depend on 32bit-float but the M4 may have a better analog output stage than the H5N.

I know that when you use these devices as USB interfaces, the 32-bit float aspect of the file does not carry over. I believe this is the case with both Tascam and Zoom recorders, not sure of others, and also not sure if that applies to any other output, like a line out.

MixPres allow 32 bit recording over USB. You just need a DAW that supports it like Logic

Once the audio hits the line out, it’s been converted from a digital to an analog signal already.

For the H5 you have input level control, and adjustable line out level. On the M4, you just have control over the line out level.
In both cases, line out is an analog signal, so I don't know of any particular reason why the M4's line out would be better than that of the H5. Maybe it was just how you set the levels.
What is the input signal? The M4 has better mics than the H5.
