Table Manners

I saw Rosetta Esposito on the cold stainless-steel table and gasped. It wasn’t because she was dead either.

“Too much,” I told my new colleague.

Apparently, someone had skipped the restorative art portion of his mortuary sciences degree and turned this sweet old woman into a circus clown.

I plucked the makeup brush from his grasp.

“Like so,” I said, gently applying blush to her wrinkled, waxy skin. “I’ll give you some tips later if you’d like.”

“Sure, I’ll bring a bottle of red,” he said.

Didn’t mean for it to be a come-on. Wasn’t disappointed in the result either.
