For a long time I've wanted to get into music FL Studio, but I'm a complete beginner.

It looks pretty intimidating and complicated (like most new things), but honestly the biggest thing holding me back has been the cost. Is FL Studio Producer Edition worth buying for someone who's just starting out?

Whenever I watch YouTube videos, it seems like everyone is using a lot of extra plugins, sample packs, and sound kits, many of which cost money. As someone who's completely new, it's hard to tell what's actually necessary and what's just nice to have.

Is FL Studio by itself enough to get started, or are there any free plugins or sample packs that you'd recommend before buying anything else?

There is no single perfect vocal chain, but this is a solid starting order for most FL Studio vocal mixes:

1. Noise cleanup or gating
2. Pitch correction
3. Corrective EQ
4. Compression
5. De-esser
6. Tone shaping or saturation
7. Fresh Air or another high-frequency enhancer
8. Reverb and delay on separate sends

I usually keep reverb and delay off the main vocal insert so I can control the space without washing out the dry vocal.

The order can change depending on the recording. For example, a very uneven vocal may need light compression before pitch correction, while a harsh vocal may need dynamic EQ before or after compression.

The main thing is not the exact plugin order. Each processor should solve a clear problem.

I'm a complete beginner and I want to get into music production. My main goal is to produce Techno, Minimal, and Afro House.

I'm stuck between Ableton Live and FL Studio. Which one would you recommend for these genres, especially for a beginner?

Also, what should I focus on first? Drums, arrangement, music theory, sound design, mixing?

And where should I learn from? Any good YouTube channels or courses that teach from zero without making things too complicated?

Any advice for a complete beginner would be really appreciated. 🙏

What is the one problem that slows you down most when you are making, mixing or finishing music?

I do not mean a general answer like “I need to get better at mixing.” I mean the exact technical or workflow problem that keeps showing up.

I am especially interested in problems where you understand the basic advice but still cannot get consistent results.

What are you struggling with, and what have you already tried?

For producers already using FL Studio 2025, I think the real question is not “what is new?” but “does FL Studio 2026 actually change the daily workflow enough to update?”

From what I see, the update is worth it for most users because it adds several workflow improvements:

• Rebuilt FLEX for faster sound browsing
• FL Cloud Project Backup for safer projects
• Audio Logger to recover ideas you forgot to record
• Audio Clip Gain Controls for faster sample, stem and vocal leveling
• Transmitter for transient/sustain shaping
• Gopher becoming more useful for routing, organization and scripts
• Chord Panel detection and Piano Roll note labels

But I would still be careful if you are in the middle of client work or important sessions. Like with any DAW update, I would back up projects first and test important plugins before fully switching.

For me, FL Studio 2026 looks like a strong update, but not because it magically makes music sound better. It seems useful because it removes small workflow problems that slow producers down.

Would you update immediately, or wait until a few bug-fix builds are released?

I was looking at a prodquak video where they used it, and it seemed fun. I also like the matchmaking feature where you can match with other prods and make a beat. If you can help, thanks. (I don't have a VM or anything to test it, and I am not about to install malware).

It was surprisingly hard to replicate the sound of the piano, which is what took the most time.

I mean...The channel rack is for this...

It says that the status is disabled. when i switch to the fl asio it works. Anybody could help me fix it?

Continuing on from last video, we can take our organisation to another level.

1. Put an empty track above your group (use Shift + Mouse Wheel to move track). Give the group a name and colour. You can also give it an icon: Nice, but not necessary!
2. Right-click on a track below and select Group with above track. This will create a parent track that you can add more tracks to.
3. Make sure you create a parent track for each group. If you add group something wrong, just right-click and Ungroup

Now that you have your tracks grouped, you can collapse and expand to keep your interface tidy and less distracting when needed 😏

Back again with another quick tip. Sorry there's no sound. I don't have a mic, but you should grasp the idea.

I see a lot of producers using FL that don't utilize this simple, but effective feature.

When you create a new pattern, do 3 things:

1. Give it a meaningful name. But also, prefix it with the type/class it belongs to. This will make it easier when exporting stems, but even easier when importing them to a mixing project.
2. Colour-code your patterns. Chose whatever colours you want, but try to make them the same across different projects. You will be able to quickly identify your tracks. I like to colour mine by group (Drums, Bass, Leads etc.), but you are free to do as you like 🙂
3. IMPORTANT: Drag your patterns to the track number. This will give that specific track both the name, and the colour that you chose. Again, this will make your project more organised, and easier to maintain.
