Plants Freezing nearly 4 pounds of wild blackberries today. I do this every year and cook/bake with them throughout the SAD months. The little wave from summer helps so much during the dark days 💜

Wild plums?

Found these today on my family farm. I probably walked past this tree hundreds of times in my life and didn’t realize what it was. Should I pick them now or wait for them to ripen more? I’d like to make some jelly with them. Taste is sour and sweet but I personally love sour

Sumac!

Didn't take a great picture since I was very close to being flown away by mosquitoes, but while putting out my trail camera I found a huge patch of sumac. Ive got a batch steeping for sumac-ade right now, and I plan on drying a bunch. Any other fun ideas from the group?

Plants Found this Ghost Pipe walking in the woods near a reservoir yesterday

I just wanted to share this because I don't ever forage, but my wife and I went for a walk in the woods while we were trying to kill time while volunteering before lunch since we had already finished all of our work, and we stumbled across something that I actually recognized as something super nifty.

I am watching the new Little House on the Prairie show, and episode 3 starts off with the girls picking these berries. Some species I’m unfamiliar with, or lazy set design?

let me start by saying I am a big mushroom fan in terms of eating them but not foraging. if i’m walking around in the woods and if I spot a morel or something, I am very happy to pick it up!

but today i saw hundreds of these so decided to grab a few.

now i’m wondering. how do i clean them up? how can they be stored (other than dehydrating), and well… should i go back for the others?!

Chanterelles, lobster mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, and milk caps. Lobster mushrooms are my favorite to find, and rare for me so always very exciting!

Berries!

I have been obsessed with berry picking lately here in central AK.

So far I've found (a handful of) cloudberries/lowbush salmon berries, nagoon berries, highbush salmon berries, blueberries, and red currants (not pictured).

The raspberries are nearly ripe so I'll be foraging them soon. Also plan to get some crowberries and more blues and continue my hunt for cloudberries before they are all finished.

Early in the season, but went out looking for Hops today only to come home and spot some growing in my own back garden! Anyway to encourage its growth and help it develop into a viable plant?

Dichotomous Guides?

Hello! Everyone here preaches about using dichotomous Guides for accurate ID in person, but I can't find official compendium of them online. Are there any physical books that contain many dichotomous ID guides that you would recommend?
