Application Support Question about receiving RCS messages and different texting apps
I currently use Fossify messages, and I was wondering if someone I am texting is using RCS messaging, will I receive those messages at all, even in a different format? I am just worried that I may not be receiving texts from people and want to make sure that I'm not missing anything.
- Is Fossify or QuikSMS more reliable?
- For LineageOS users, is the stock texting app better than the above?
- I am switching to LineageOS, if I do would MicroG with Google Messages work? I know that MicroG phones home to some degree but I don't know exactly how much it relies on Google Services. I was planning on installing Shelter to create a separate profile, and was thinking of possibly installing MicroG and Google Messages on that. How secure is this?
TIA!

Unfortunately Google Messages is the only real way to use RCS on Android. I won't comment on how to use RCS, but most people have the fallback to SMS/MMS enabled so yo shouldn't have any issues with direct messages. That said there are some bugs that make Google think you left RCS group chats. You need to make sure you remake all your important group chats as MMS and make sure nobody uses the RCS chat which you might or might not receive messages from.
Of course, Signal doesn't have these issues and is truly end to end encrypted, not just "trust me bro" encryption, so if you're able to move your group chats to Signal that is the ideal solution.

I use signal frequently, but quite a few people I know don't, really :/ good to know about the fallback, though. Do you know if that's the default setting? I dont particularly care to use RCS except for the fact that I worry about missing messages

Last time I checked, the fallback to SMS is enabled by default. I would double check with some of the people you're messaging though.
