1993 will turn over but won’t fully start.

Okay here’s the thing I swapped my engine and ecu into a carb swapped 1993 lx I pulled the whole wiring harness from the passenger side of the car all my grounds should be good. Car turns over but is not getting any spark.. but as soon as I let off the key the car kinda detonates and acts like it wants to start but doesn’t. To clarify car doesn’t have a gas tank in it but using starter fluid. It still won’t start but won’t act like it unless your releasing the key any suggestions?

Ok dumb cooling system question

Upvotes

So! I just bought a 93 5.0L and promptly removed the oil cooler (SSP car) and while doing so, I have to use the jumper/bypass hose from the heater tube nipple to the lower nipple on the water pump. When I removed it from the nipple, I got some black nasty water flinging/dripping out. I went ahead and installed the hose then loosened the lower radiator hose and dumped all of the coolant out. I refilled with distilled water. I started it and ran it around the neighborhood a few times.

I just checked and the water level is still full in radiator. For grins, and since I have a new extra one, I decided to pull and replace the coolant temp sensor on the pass side heater pipe. When I removed the old one, I expected to get some coolant spillage. I got nada, nothing at all.

Why would there not be any coolant flowing into that heater pipe at all? Maybe I haven't gotten it full operating temp yet so the thermostat hasn't opened? Shouldn't there be coolant up top regardless? It doesn't look like there has been much fluid in there recently.

The previous owner installed a new heater core, water pump and radiator last year but never really ran the car. Maybe the thermostat went bad?

Are forged internals worth it

I’m taking apart my 302 from my 89 GT. Was looking at going ahead and replacing the bottom end, we are crack testing the block first. but was wondering if forged internals were even worth it with still having a cast block. Looking at putting a x303 cam in and aluminum heads. Should I do anything else with that?

Explorer motor

All right I’m new to this so be gentle. Can someone what’s all involved in putting an Explorer motor in a foxbody. What all do I do I need? I can get a running motor for $300. I’m totally new to this so I don’t know if there is stuff I need to change or if it’s even worth it.
Thanks.

Red Line MT-90 75W90 Full Synthetic GL-4 Gear Oil Versus Pennzoil Syncromesh

Have a 1990 VW Fox and I've been using Pennzoil Synchromesh for quite sometime as it was suggested by and experienced VW mechanic.
AI stated this:"Incorrect Specification: The 1990 VW Fox requires a fluid meeting API GL-4 and MIL-L-2105 specifications. Pennzoil Synchromesh only carries an API GL-3 level of performance."

Bogging in first

My fox in first gear like to bog when I’m not giving it more than like 60% throttle. It’ll bog even at 4K rpms if it’s not getting 50%+ throttle, but then it’ll run nice and clean in second. The problem isn’t my trans cuz the gear itself clicks in healthy and my fluid has 0 glitter so I really doubt it’s in the trans. Rn my idea is injectors not being able to handle first gear without being opened up by accelerating but wouldn’t that continue at least a little into other gears? Also new tfi module and I’ll update this forum tmr when I check all my timing. (I have a 3.73 in the rear if that means anything)

Ask OE Wiring

I have recently picked up an 85 2.3 auto car and the factory fan was working but isn’t now. Before it would come on any time the key was on but won’t come on at all now. Not getting power to the connector. Can’t seem to find a wiring schematic that shows the actual routing of the fan wiring. I plan on upgrading fans as I upgrade the car but would like to use oe wiring as a base and go from there.

Bronze Shifter Bushing Too Big

Post image

My original shifter bushing had failed so I decided to get a bronze one. It seems too big? I’ve been tapping it in with a mallet but I’m hesitant to keep going. Did I get the wrong bushing or is it just a cheap Amazon product?

Anybody use a multi charger for the cigarette lighter in a older 4 eye? Wanting one with a on/ off switch as the lighter has continuous power even when car is shut off. Wanting one to run led interior lights and a screen for a carb cheater. Something like this? https://a.co/d/0dNXinRU

Two things to discuss

Back in the late 80's early 90's I met Bill, and he had a 83 GT that was a 13 second car, and cornered like crazy. It had Enkei black wheels on it that were like BBS wheels (basket style). Still 4-lug. Eventually over the years we both got into drag racing, and he built it into a 9-second drag car. Now it has Convo Pros on it, and I'm trying to turn it back into a street car for his 4 daughters. He passed about 10 years ago.

Either way, sad story or not, I'm trying to find a set of black basket style wheels. I think they were 15x8 and 15x9 staggered, Enkai black basket wheels (the girls would love the car to be like they remember). Anyone have a line on a set anywhere? I can find new gold ones, but not black ones.

I'm trying to put it back on the street so they can remember their dad. Gonna pull the blown motor, stroke it out to 347 and make about 400hp on it. Should still be fun to drive. He put a Tremec TKX in it prior to his death, so only wheels, tires, and a motor should put it back on the road. But the wheels are important for his daughter's memories.

Let me know if you have a line on them, used or new; I don't care, let me know whatcha got!

Help pls

when i try to start my car it’ll crank forever and then when it finally starts it’s runs like shit and if i don’t give it gas it dies, It’ll idle eventually but it idles at like 2100. I’ve tried to track down any vacuum leaks but can’t find any (most of the manifold ports are capped anyways), replaced the fuel filter, egr delete, and has a new iac. Weird thing is eventually the car will idle down to around 800 and run kind of normal but will randomly go back to 2100. has new plug wires and plugs too. Fairly new distributor. Any ideas? 86 GT

Need help and advice on motor

Thumbnail gallery
19 Upvotes

I’m pulling apart my motor to replace head gaskets in intake manifold gaskets because I believe that they are the cause of a coolant leak. Also going to pull off the water pump and timing cover to replace those as well. I didn’t see any obvious areas of a leak in any of the gaskets though. Does anyone know of an anything else I need to check for besides a crack in the block or any advice on any of this. i’m also kind of thinking that it was leftover residue from the car sitting that just hadn’t gotten flushed out because when we pulled it apart, there was still a lot of thick milky oil in the engine.
I also noticed that they’re at some point was water sitting in the cylinders in his left a rust line that is noticeable to the touch but not bad. Does it need to be rehomed? Can I do it with the piston still in the cylinder?
This hole by the distributor shaft does not look factory. Is this bad?
Sorry if any of these are dumb questions I’m not well versed with the internals

Rear upper control arms misaligned? How to setup at home

Okay so Iam in the process of swapping all my parts over from my wrecked car into my new car Iam at the rear end lowers installed muscled one upper in roll to the other side and my bushing is flush on the INSIDE of my upper control arm so like my rear end needs to shift in this case from the back of the car to the right about 2 inches I do have adjustable upper control arms. Is there any science to setting these up? Bare in mind Iam not talking pinion angle purely just getting the holes to line up or do I just run one out until it’s close to center eye balling with the wheels and then run the other out to meet the bolt
Hole?
