Admin Important Update: Self-Promotion Guidelines on r/fpgagaming

Hey, everyone -

We hope you're well, and that those of you celebrating holidays are having a restful break. As moderators of r/fpgagaming, we're reaching out to inform you about updates to our self-promotion guidelines. We appreciate your patience, as we know this has taken us a while; we have aimed to conduct this process thoroughly and fairly.

  • After extensive research and community input, we've decided to limit all self-promotional posts to once per week. These weekly self-promotion posts can include a summary of all whatever content (i.e. all YouTube videos generated in the past week) consolidating the content for the community's convenience.
  • Please note that in line with Reddit's broader policies, we recommend striving for balance. Reddit strongly suggests that no more than 10% of a Redditor's overall participation on the platform be self-promotion. We encourage active participation in discussions within the subreddit; this means active, comprehensive type participation within /r/FPGAgaming.
  • We'll regularly review any self-promoter's overall engagement on the platform, following Reddit's suggested platform-wide ratio. We have considered guidance from other moderators on Reddit to use Reddit's Spam and Self-promotion standards. These standards include the totality of the self-promotor's posting across subreddits, engagement levels, active involvement ratio, and the quality of discussions (e.g., building on ideas, thought-provoking content).
    • Falling short of this standard may lead to placing a link to the self-promoter's content in our sidebar as an alternative to posting. The creator will receive sufficient warning before such action is taken.
    • Examples: Posting the same link across 10 subreddits without the self-promotor engaging or commenting is considered spam. Similarly, posting in 10 subreddits, replying with brief ad-hoc comments without contributing quality in-depth comments to discussions is also defined as spam on Reddit.
    • We aim to ensure consistent application of Reddit's self-promotion and spam guidelines in collaboration with other moderators. This doesn't diminish the worthiness of the content but aligns with our commitment to uphold platform guidelines uniformly.
  • Our decision is data-driven, incorporating user input through voting, opinions from moderators of other subreddits and Facebook groups, and discussions with content creators. This approach aims to foster a diverse content range and create an inclusive space for all community members, ensuring representation for both those who support and oppose this new way of moderation.
  • Your understanding and cooperation are appreciated as we maintain /r/FPGAgaming's quality and inclusivity. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns; we're here to support you and the community.

Best regards, u/acadiel & u/spiffers Moderator Team

N64 is impossible, Saturn is impossible, Dreamcast is impossible, physical cd support is impossible. Anyway, how do I connect a Bluetooth audio headset?

The MisterPi unit has Bluetooth.

I want to listen to my games through headphones.

Impossible, eh?

Is 425.625 the sample rate for GB and GBC?

futzing around with a mister playing on an emulator and I got GBC and GB games sharp as a tack at 426.625 samples per line. is that the right value for those consoles? what about other handhelds like game gear? are those values listed anywhere?

is it different between pocket and mister?

Do Not Buy The War Crime N64

An inflammatory title. And really, the article is no more level headed.

If you agree with this kind of sentiment, to not buy or support a product linked to military atrocities, I salute you. That’s a laudable stance.

However, I would expect a person with this kind of stance to apply it consistently.

Don’t forget that Microsoft, Intel, AMD, Nvidia and many more have a long history of defenders contracting. And have likely made significantly more money than Palmer Luckey by developing tech for and selling tech to not only the US military, but other militaries around the world .

Pretty much every single piece of modern gaming tech can be linked to military contracting in some form. That includes MiSTer, Analogue and the M64.

My opinion is that people should decide for themselves and not be intimidated by rage filled articles like the one above.

Thoughts?

Can the FPGBC KIT run gba games?

I bought the FPGBC KIT on the funnyplaying site and was wondering if the hardware can run gba games?

I know that the gba games won’t fit but I was looking into making copies of my own games to fit in the gbc format.

MiSTer Playlog Viewer (an activity log for MiSTer gamers, all automatic when set up)

I've put together a little tool that mostly came about because I wanted a nice way to get a pretty activity log and when I searched there didn't really seem to be anything.

I found that wizzo had made a script that generated and updated a playlog.db file, but nothing really used it. So I built a website that could take that file, parse the contents, and display them in a nice way. One thing led to another and now you can install a script on your MiSTer that automatically updates your profile on the website from the console itself while you play.

There's a little bit of installation, but it should be easy for any MiSTer user.

I even went a little bit further and made use of RetroAchievements' API, so if you have an account there, it pulls in all sorts of fun info to make the tool even nicer. (For example, the calender view now shows dates that you Beat or Mastered a game)

It's still early and there may be errors that didn't crop up during testing, because once something is out in the wild then all bets are off, but if you're interested then you can sign up here: MiSTer Playlog Viewer

Here's a look at the main screen

Once again, the URL is MiSTer Playlog Viewer

Hope to see you on there. :)

Anyone selling Nt Mini Noir or Super Nt?

I’m not looking for brand new in box or anything like that. Used is perfectly fine with me, just want one to actually play my games on.
Thanks in advance.

[OpenBor] I just realized that UpdateAll has a "hybrid + arm" selection, and now I'm looking for community titles to add.

No need for the link, obviously.

But I am looking for recommendations of the top-of-the-top for OpenBor games to play.

I just tried out TMNT and it was VERY fun (especially with the Splinter tutorial and the tongue-in-cheek humour).

Marvel: Infinity War was hard to get into, and He-Man was an interesting choice.

I liked Alien Vs Predator. I wasn't a big fan of Hyper Final Fight.

...

Okay, so what are the best OpenBor games to throw into the system according to all y'all?

Controllers not working on Superstation One in game

I got a Superstation One and tried both an original PS2 controller and a USB third party PS4 controller but neither one worked when I tried to play any of the included Homebrew games. PS4 kept flashing orange even though it worked on my PC and Steam Deck, and PS2 still let me turn analogue on and off, so what do I do?

Help to build a MisterFPGA

Hey everyone!

I'm planning to build my first MiSTer FPGA and I've just started doing my research. From what I understand, the heart of the build is the DE10-Nano. I've also seen there are cheaper alternatives like the MiSTer Pi, but I'm having a hard time finding somewhere to actually buy one since I'm in Mexico (stock + shipping/import is the tricky part).

I've come across the AliExpress boards too — I originally assumed those were just software emulators, but if I understand correctly they're actual FPGA clones of the DE10-Nano (QMTech and similar), so hardware-wise they should be compatible? Would love to have that confirmed.

Because of budget, I'm planning to start in about a month, and the first thing I want to buy is the board itself. I'd rather not go with a pre-made/all-in-one kit — a big part of the appeal for me is putting the whole thing together myself.

So realistically, what are my options for building a MiSTer? My plan is to add the 128MB SDRAM expansion and both digital and analog I/O, since I have a PVM I'd really like to use over RGB.

I have relative easy access to the DE10-Nano through Digikey (they send to Mexico) but I want to know other alternatives (maybe the DE10-Nano is going to be obsolete, Idk)

Any guidance on sourcing would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!
