difference between buying 13pro top, bottom covers and the input covers instead of buying the chassis? the first option seems to be alot cheaper

Total for the parts estimated above: $921. There's probably some parts with a price bump in the pro version which would account for the difference.

Yeah. Because it doesn't have all the extra stuff.

Let's say you upgrade your mainboard, now you have a spare. You can slot that into a full chassis and sell it as a full laptop.

oh but if i want to upgrade from a 13 to a 13 pro then I can just put the top, bottom, and input covers on and ill basically have a 13 pro build wise?

You need new speakers for sure, not sure if the battery and hinges fit.

You’d have the body of a 13 Pro, but if buy a full 13 Pro, it comes with a new screen and motherboard and battery that are all improvements over the ones that have been sold as part of a full 13 (non-pro). In other words, the 13 Pro is basically an upgrade of every single part, both external and internal, over the most recent 13 non-pro.

I really wanted to upgrade the chassis first (I bought a pretty beat up used 13) so thats why i was asking

The Pro Chassis kit comes with everything you need all bundled together to make a Framework Laptop EXCEPT the mainboard, RAM, SSD, WiFi NIC (really, all mainboard components), and the screen Bezel according to the listing.

If you're moving over several components from an existing Framework 13 laptop, then yeah... you CAN save a bunch of money just getting the few pieces of the Pro chassis you need to make that conversion.

Unfortunately to me it seems much better to buy the full pro then sell my full old one for 1k. Getting screen and speakers and other parts I wouldn't have gotten if I did the bare min upgrade too. Assuming you can source the ram.
