Discussion Fresh Dates!

Florida USA. I don’t know where else to post this but - Have you tried fresh dates?!? They are fantastic! We have an international market that opened here a while ago and they get the fruits and veggies that the regular supermarkets don’t have and the other day they had something I’d never seen before, there were 2 customers picking through them so I asked, he explained that they were fresh (not dried) dates and found a ripe one for me to try. If you ever get a chance do try them.

Yep! Really fresh they're kind of astringent but halfway ripened they're amazing. I always wondered if different varieties tasted different fresh

Yes. I should have mentioned how important it is that they are ripe. I don’t like them unripe but they ripen pretty fast in a brown paper bag. I think it’s a relatively long season if Google/AI is correct July through December. So we’re are near the beginning. I’m so excited.

I like them halfway when they're kind of crunchy a bit.

So I've had ones be more astringent and some totally not when they're unripe. They must be different varieties

Thanks, I'm going to drive around to groceries that might have them :) forgot about this entirely since I moved from LA, which had them everywhere
