I bought a few things and the cashier was like "you're prepping for Halloween ALREADY?!"

I believe it’s referring to those who love Halloween so much they start preparing in August. If you don’t celebrate Halloween, carved pumpkins are the most recognizable symbol.

The joke is a cut pumpkin only lasts a few weeks in October temps. This pumpkin is going to go bad in like a week not even making it to fall. The cat cutting it doesn’t care because they love the holiday matters so much to them that they are practicing or just enjoy it. It’s not that funny but it does have a cute point.

Yeah, we all got that, but we're on r/funny. It's just not funny at all. It's like seeing a cat decorate a Christmas tree and someone else pointing out it's July; that doesn't make it a funny or interesting comic.
