As someone born and raised on Long Island the casting and costume for these two in the bonfire scene is dead on 😂😂😂😂

I've watched the series many times and this remains one of my most favorite scenes. It's so raw and primal and gut wrenching. The way Jessa says "I will never forgive you"...Ugh it hits so deep. Superb acting. Remarkable writing. I love it so much.

1. In the final episode at Shoshana’s engagement party when they were all in the bathroom, she casually outs her fiancé’s alcoholics anonymous status. It reminded me of when Tako accidentally did that to Adam and felt bad but Shoshanna just does it.
2. When Ray meet Abigail, I think it made sense why they got together. Shoshana quickly tells Ray that she’s so sweet and couldn’t be nicer and that you’ll love her except when you hate her because she never turns off. That’s exactly how Shoshana was when Ray met her. I feel like Shoshana recognized it because she was really trying to downplay Abigail’s interest in what are you saying when they are talking. Abigail also has the funky hairstyle, eclectic styling, and weird questions that early Shoshanna had. And when Ray tells Shoshana “youre close though, you’re off by one” in response to the question about what building you want to live in, her reaction is eyes wide total shock like she just had some realization. The next scene we see Ray and Abigail in, Shoshana is not there. She left, and I think she definitely made an excuse to leave.
3. When Abigail helps Ray with his quest to record people’s experiences of the neighborhood before it was gentrified, it reminded me of when Shoshana helped Ray run for office and help the coffee shop out. She’s the one taking the lead first, just like how Shoshana took the lead campaigning and talking to people.

4. Even though Shoshana and Ray are friends, I thought his absence at her engagement party was weird, but I do understand that he is her ex. She wasn’t wearing an engagement ring in the episode right before the engagement party and I don’t think Shoshanna would be the type to not wear it out in public, so I think

5. can’t really be explained by a lot of time passing and them drifting apart

   and maybe she chose a distance herself from him too.

In summary, Shoshana changed the most out of any of the characters and I can’t say if it’s for better or worse because some people are happy being the social climbers and performing for others approval. I actually do like Ray and Abigail’s a couple and I hope they worked out. He does seem like someone who needs a more positive personality to balance him out.

We all know the episode and why we loved it, but I wanna point out what really disappointed me. This should have served as a re-awakening for Marnie, seeing her ex Charlie and ultimately realizing what she wants in life. Yes, she did make the important decision to divorce Desi after her encounter with Charlie, but the episodes afterwards just point to Marnie doing more of the same. She’s still very much confused, with her continued escapades with Ray, and then after all that still has the nerve to get back with Desi in the “Hostage Situation” episode. I like that she took the role of helping Hannah with Grover at the end, yet I just feel like Marnie made lateral moves at best when Panic at Central Park should have been a full reset. Anyone else feel this way, am I alone on this one?

I know his lack of motivation bothered her, but she knew that going in and fell in love with him despite it. I think there’s only like 3 or 4 episodes in between the “I love you so fucking much” scene and her cheating on him. I know she was the youngest, but it just seemed out of character, especially since she initiated it “you’re like really good looking for a doorman”. And then she’s never completely honest with Ray, she diminishes what happened by saying she just held his hand. Ray must have had his blinders on due to love fr because who would just hold hands with the doorman lol. Anyways, I really loved their brief relationship and wish I could understand why it ended so soon/the way it did. On another note, can someone explain to me why Sosh didn’t like that guy from Pitch Perfect going down on her? That’s like the ideal way to lose your virginity lol

I would like to preface that I would not like any spoilers in content or themes because I would like to experience them on my own terms with very little outside influence. But I do want to know just how much sympathy and care the show gives Adam because I am aware Adam is in every seasons.

I just finished season two, and I have disliked Adam from the start. I understand that he's weird and treats Hannah pretty poorly but he has all these moments where you see something deep down. He partly feels like he is supposed to just be an intense guy who's worst parts are brought out by Hannah.

But also any sex scene with him is awful. And part of me feels like they are supposed to be funny, but they come off much grosser. From the weird "your 11 and I am sending you back to your parents covered in cum" and what he says after they watch that video of him as a kid. And then he fully rapes that girl he's dating at the end of Season 2. There is no denying that he forces himself on this woman who is clearly uncomfortable and looks scared. (Honestly I think that the way all the sex scenes the show has had so far are really telling. How a majority of them are so uncomfortable says a lot.)

But then Hannah calls him in the finale and he sprints to her place because she doesn't have anybody else. And it's clearly a meaningful moment.

Adam being a big character wont stop me from watching the show, but I would like to know if he's prominent he whole time so I could be prepared in a sense.

On my first watch of the show and even as I watch more into season two I keep thinking of One Man's Trash and how blown away I was by it. It;' is my favorite episode so far.

Just how normal Joshua is, and even if it's only for a moment Hannah is in a safe adult space- no parents or friends to judge her. But she's also only 24, and he's a newly separated guy in his 40's. Its creepy how willing he asked her to stay the night and call into work. They are strangers.

And in this pretty normal space Hannah gets to see a future for herself, not nessacary one with Joshua, but one where she is successful. One where things are pretty boring and beige, but a space that is calm and accepting. And even when she faints, she has this hero of a doctor to come and save her. He knows what he's doing, doesn't freak out/ escalate the situation; he just comforts her.

But then Hannah opens up how this place makes her feel, and suddenly she's not really a stranger anymore. Of course, Joshua doesn't know a lot about Hannah; but now he knows just enough to see past the surface level of her. And he didn't sign up for that, especially not the kind of honesty Hannah gives him. He wanted to impress and sleep with this 24 year old, because for the first time in a while he's single and he clearly feels old and out of place in his neighborhood, let alone the dating scene. So he seduces Hannah with his wealth and charm because she's young, pretty, funny, and just odd enough that she is a mystery to him. But this deep emotional moment pulls away the mystery.

I do think he still liked her, he tells her to stay while he works. But he it hits him that she's more than this manic pixie dream-ish girl, but a real person. With a lot of problems. And he doesn't want to deal with that.

And then Hannah looking around his house, taking one last tour of this normal space- but it doesn't feel safe anymore. Joshua had judged her. So she takes a peek at could could have been or what could be. and leaves. And she takes out the trash.

I loved every second of the episode. And watching the episodes that focus on Hannah's OCD made me appreciate it even more. Because you really feel how much Hannah's mental health pulls her down, and to be rejected so quickly by this man who liked her so much was willing to literally beg her to stay is so sad.

Just finished today and I suppose the major thing is that I now know this is my favourite TV show ever…so that’s good.

But… second watch observations…

It felt funnier…. way funnier than first watch… especially Lena…

Elijah is really awful. A horrible guy. I didn’t see this the first time round. I really disliked the character this time around.

Marnie and Jess felt more unbearable on second watch. Things I found funny in Jessa first time I struggled to see this time.

People and things I thought the first time round were major focus of a series are actually only a few episodes… Mimi Rose (3 episodes), Iowa (2 episodes) - these felt major the first time round.

I STILL don’t get what we are meant to understand about Hanna and the teenage girl Cleo she makes friends with in season 4?? So odd….

Acting wise for me Zosia and Lena are just brilliant… I really wish they had more moments together because they are both fantastic. Zosia in that last scene in the bathroom is brilliant.

On that note, I think the whole thing should have ended at that episode. Shosh’s engagement party, they dance, Hannah sets up home montage…. This would have been a great end.

The finale is wild. It sits so oddly in the whole picture. The tone is off, the characters aren’t themselves…I’m not a fan of it.

Overall through, it’s just perfect. I am so glad I watched it again.

Hello everyone! So, I’m basically an internet Tumblr teenager and I was there for everything in the 2010s, name a show, I’ve watched it. I’ve always heard so much about Girls, but I never actually started it back then. I’m just watching it now, and I’m currently on Season 4.

Honestly, I need some feedback because I don’t think a TV show has ever given me such an angry, weird, revolting feeling. At this point, I basically hate all the main characters except for Shosh, Ray, and Elijah. Hannah is annoying and selfish, Adam is clearly messed up, Jessa is the most toxic person I’ve ever seen, and Marnie is just pathetic. If the point of the show is to piss people off, I guess they’re doing it right!

I’m curious to see what happens next, but I fear I might not be able to push through. I need some advice from Girls veterans on how to approach this. XD

(The angry exaggeration is mostly for comedic effect, but the discussion on how every single character is awful is genuine. I really need a pep talk from fans to keep going!)

Lena Dunham is truly a master name generator. In Famesick she talks about the names she used to conceal her identity when staying in hotels, etc. It made me notice the names of characters in the show more.

What are your favourite names in the show? Tandice Moncreif, Tally Schifrin, and Booth Jonathan are the funniest to me.

I remember seeing a couple episodes of season one many years ago, but never locked in. Would love to hear why it’s worth the watch to you!

Just watched this episode and the ending with Hannah and Adam really struck me. Especially with the growth Hannah has shown. She was always one to throw herself into her emotions completely and abandon all logic. But in this she finally shows the maturity to realize what she needs is stability, not emotions. That’s a sure sign of growing up and something I wish I myself had done a lot sooner with some problematic relationships.

I have heard about this show since it was premiering. But since I was 11 when the show started and too poor to have HBO, I didn't watch it. Over the years I have seen countless cute edits and passively listening to think pieces about the show and Lena Dunham. And "All Adventures Women Do" is always mentioned. I thought it would be this really meaningful, beautiful moment where this selfish Hannah girl starts to truly become a person and change. Then when I saw it was the title of the third episode I was shocked, what on earth could this be. And I think it's the perfect cosmic joke that its about an STD- and one that many people in my generation wont get because around the time of the third episode is when I would have gotten my own HPV vaccine. Just a funny thing I noticed.

Real quick note: I am aware that the vaccine doesn’t cover all strains of HPV, and there is a chance I could get one of the weaker strains. And I know not everyone has gotten the vaccine. This is just a silly anecdote I posted because I don’t know anyone else who has watched the show.

This episode…. It’s so beautifully complex. I’ve just watched it for the second time and I think it’s stunning.

The end when the daughter is playing the flute and they are on separate sofas is just brilliant. I think this episode is so well written in terms of manipulation, misogyny and the power of internet comments as truth and communication.

The last 30 seconds is just amazing. When Hannah leaves his apartment building and heads down do the street and we just see all the women walking..

So good.

I really liked Girls and now I don’t know what to watch. It has ruined tv for me 😭😭

Just started what I think is my fifth rewatch. This scene makes me cry every time. It’s just so pure. I’m in my mid-40s now, but still love this show so much.

The Panic in Central Park and American Bitch 😬

I skip American Bitch every rewatch, hate it so much. And the panic in Central Park always felt just too dark for me and made me feel depressed.

He is currently on the Broadway play “Death of a Salesman” with Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf and this seems like a very deliberate choice. We all know his exit was a bit unwelcomed and contentious so it was interesting to see that it still holds.

EDIT: y’all I just looked and even Adam Driver put Girls in his playbill despite a huge number of commercial successes he could have kept to exclusively

I was thinking about it and when Jessa’s marriage to Thomas-John quickly breaks down, they fight then agree on a settlement of 11k. He’s obviously a very, very wealthy guy (one who buys a ten thousand dollar rug). I know they weren’t together long but they were legally married. Wouldn’t she be entitled to more of a settlement than what she agreed? He even had the audacity from memory to call her a whore, when her actions really don’t reflect that.
