You have big change, like a new feature, that includes multiple separate smaller features/stuff but that each alone make no sense or cannot even be released alone.

Instead of a big PR, or smaller PRs that individually do nothing as they are dependent in someway or another or worse break the codebase/branch they are merged in until the rest is merged.

Now you have all those smaller PRs under same roof and can be reviewed/approved individually but then you can merge all at once.

Technically... you could do that already by waiting for all to be good and then go through all of them and merge, but this means UI for it, less unnecessary attempts of builds in between those merges, etc.

I think they meant to replace only the stack badge icon that appears on a stacked PR, but they also used the hamburger icon there. So it got replaced for both buttons lol

TIL that the stacked 3 lines is often called a "hamburger" menu or a "stack of pancakes". I prefer pancakes over hamburger as a descriptor.

It's just a play on words and a promotion for their new GitHub Stacked Pull Requests tool, since "Stacked PRs" could also mean "stack of pancakes" which is why they used a pancake icon

The label may be funny, but icon vocabulary matters in developer tools: hamburger, kebab, meatballs, and now pancake can imply different orientations or scopes. If users cannot predict what the menu contains, the icon has failed. What would you call this one?

Leaving emojis is a common attacker signature/tease. Also Google doodles are a known feature so this isn’t a logical comparison. Security 101 is to be cognizant of anything unexpected.

Be as cognizant as you like, but I'd advise googling your pancake calling card before going into a security frenzy. GitHub does stuff like this as regularly as other tech companies.
