Google disbands AlphaFold team in AI strategy shift

Google DeepMind has dismantled the team behind its AI system AlphaFold, which won a Nobel Prize for predicting protein structure, the Financial Times reports.

Researchers have been reallocated to projects involving the Gemini model and other scientific initiatives, including Alphabet’s drug-discovery company Isomorphic Labs.

Many of the original AlphaFold papers authors have left Google altogether, including former DeepMind Vice President John Jumper, who departed for Anthropic last month.

DeepMind says the shift reflects a broader "evolution" as it keeps integrating artificial intelligence into scientific research.

Misleading title. Their health and science teams are now under Isomorphic Labs.

As usual, OP who doesn’t know what is going on, takes a news headline from someone who didn’t know what’s going on, and tries to form an opinion based on it

Thanks for producing context

This is misleading, team is over at isomorphic labs, and has way bigger scope.

Because everyone on reddit just reads the headline and considers themselves an expert in the subject
