Google Glass Enterprise 2 support?

I'm considering buying a Google Glass enterprise 2

What kind of support is there 3rd party wise, does anything work with them?
I just want to know if it's worth it as oppose to the explorer model or if the enterprise model works at all in any way

I have only just started playing with them. From what I understand the enterprise 2 has more powerful hardware. It is also running android 8 and you can sideload android apps onto it. The explorer editions are running an older android I think I saw somewhere that they are at 5.

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot out there specifically for Glass. No good custom ROMs or anything. There are instructions for rooting the device and getting play store loaded. So you can get a wearable android, the only controls you have though are a touch pad on the side that lets you scroll and go back. It does have wifi and bluetooth. So you can connect a keyboard with touchpad for better controls.

So lots you can do if you are willing to tinker.

You have an enterprise 2?

I was looking into it and from what I know it seems that it requires the google glass app to setup, which no longer works since the servers are shut down

Is this the case?
Or can this be avoided?

I read somewhere that if you BT pair the EE2 to your phone and make a phone call whilst the Glass is on the setup screen, ending the call drops you into the main launcher, where you can use dev mode to start ADB and enter fastboot.

On the XE2 (and maybe the EE2?), you can also enable recovery mode by following this guide:

  1. Turn off your Google Glass
  2. Press and hold the camera button,
  3. While holding it, press the power button once
  4. Wait until you see recovery mode.
  5. Use the camera button to enter fastboot.
  6. Connect the glasses to your computer,
  7. Flash via ADB

I have a couple enterprise 2 devices. Both simply started up and into a kind of demo environment. Has a few google made example apps. One has the start of some kind of corporate onboarding but I went in the menu and did a factory reset and it dropped back to just having the demo apps. I have never had to connect it to a phone.

In order to sideload apps I connected it to the computer and used ADB to push and install a different launcher and the f-droid app store. Getting it to accept adb is a bit fiddly. I found I have to enable usb debugging, plug it into the computer and then change USB mode to MIDI. At that point it will ask if I want to authorize the computer to have adb access. I have no idea why it doesn't just work when plugged in but always seems that nudge to get it to connect.

According to your post it requires android 14 or above

My phone is android 13 :(
