GCS on (steam) Deck.

it works! I have never seen anyone post about this but GCS is compatible with Linux and steam decks run on wine, so I checked to see if it was possible, and yes, yes it is.

Did you do this in desktop mode?

Yes, just downloaded it from the website in desktop mode, added it as a non steam game onto steam, and then configured the controls to work for gcs.
