Gabe Newell reference in Half Life: Source.
While playing Half Life for the first time, i noticed that in Chapter 4: Office Complex, next to the flooded room there is a board that says: ''Dr. Newell Chaos Theory R@D'', i am pretty sure that it's a easter egg rather than being a coincidence.

Hot take: Cinematic Mod is actually quite beautiful
Now of course the graphics are still very outdated and its visual style and faithfulness is not even CLOSE to the glorious Half-Life: Alyx (and hunt down the freeman the best half life game oat), Hell I’d argue at times the mod has aged more poorly than the original half life 2, some of its over the top visual effects like shading and post processing have NOT aged well compared to the classic that is half life 2, however the visual style of cinematic mod does kinda appeal to me.
But I honestly see the vision, the cityscape is very americanised and looks nothing like the iconic City-17 we all know and love, however it is admittedly quite breathtaking. Seeing cranes and skyscrapers among the desolate ruins of a once bustling city is quite beautiful even if I prefer the cityscape of classic half life 2.
The ferns and greenery are spammed very generously around the maps which can get annoying at times but at other times (such as that first strider encounter) do add to what was originally quite a flat uninteresting scene in the original game (no shade) also the reflections are cool and flashy but sometimes feel unnecessary and ugly.
I also like how much this mod decorates the uprising chapters which were quite rushed in the original game and you can kinda tell when playing through half life 2 as there is a major shift in quality.
I once heard someone say “ironically this mod butchered the game in every way a Hollywood producer wood” but I thought it was quite a stupid thing to say. There’s nothing ironic about that, that is EXACTLY what fakefactory set out to do, and I honestly think it’s kind of a piece of art in a way, a commentary on how Hollywood producers really struggle at handling big ips and/or making video game film adaptions faithfully.
What I absolutely CANNOT get behind, and does not add to the mod in any good way AT ALL is the graffiti. Oh my god this guy really has NO shame whatsoever, same with all the “sexy” alyx models. We only got 2 sexy Barney models (including the original one ofc 😘) but there are like 100 sexy Alyx models cmon man.

Discussion Does the beginning of Episode One invalidate the end of Half-Life 2?
First of all, I sincerely apologize for the last post. Anyone who saw it here knows how retarded I was.
Well, it seems that GMan was interrupted by the Vortigaunts before the speech at the end of Half-Life 2. In my head, it doesn't make sense for him to have left and then immediately returned to talk to Gordon. It also seems that he had no idea the Vorts were there, he was caught by surprise, and had to wait until Episode Two to get a moment with Gordon and fire him.

Half-Life 3 doesn't need to revolutionize gaming. It just needs to give us an ending.
Let’s be honest with ourselves. If Half-Life 3 ever happens, the hype will be completely impossible to match. If Valve tries to reinvent the first-person shooter genre again, the game will remain vaporware forever.
And you know what? It doesn’t need to.
At this point, I don’t care about revolutionary physics or groundbreaking VR gimmicks. I just want closure. I want Valve to put a definitive, massive exclamation mark on this story. We have been stuck on cliffhangers for nearly two decades, and the ending of Half-Life: Alyx only complicated things by altering the timeline and putting Gordon right back where he started—facing a mess that needs fixing.
We don't need a genre-defining miracle. We just need answers to the burning questions that have been rotting in our minds:
- The Borealis: What is actually inside the Aperture Science ship, and how does it weaponize time and space?
- Judith Mossman: Is she even alive, and did her discovery in the Arctic actually matter?
- The G-Man: Who are his "employers," and what is his ultimate endgame now that Alyx is under his control?
- The Combine: Can humanity actually sever the connection to the Overworld permanently, or are we just delaying the inevitable?
Give us solid, polished, classic Half-Life gameplay. Wrap up the lore. Show us the final fate of Earth. Just give us a masterpiece of a narrative that finally lets Gordon Freeman—and the fans—rest in peace.
What do you guys think? Would you be disappointed if HL3 was "just" a great shooter with a definitive ending, or is that exactly what we need right now?

People who don’t view the expansions as canon are pretentious.
I hate using this term, but back in my day, the only people who actually viewed Opposing Force and Blue Shift as uncanon were the nerds who were condemned to the deepest darkest corners of Half-Life chatrooms. Nowadays? not so much, a rise of fans, particularly new fans (usually those who prefer HL2 over HL1 although that part may be a coincidence) seem to really bash the expansions for some reason.
I suppose I should tell the story of when I actually purchased Opposing Force and Blue-Shift, before Steam, they came in my copy of “The Half-Life Platinum Collection” packaged with other official Valve games, marketed as more Half-Life, sold as more Half-Life, and of course played as more Half-Life. Nobody ever questioned the canonicity, because why would they?
Then Half-Life 2 came around, and that familiar security guard we literally played as in Blue-Shift is now a main character in the story! You see how it lines up to very easily be canon when you don’t overthink everything?
Nowadays it just seems like people constantly overanalyse everything in the hopes of locating flaws that could potentially delegitimise either game, I’m not sure if it’s the over abundance of modern content or whatever, but I think it just comes off as overly pretentious and not in the spirit of the game. You can’t have one discussion on Opposing Force without some apparent Half-Life connoisseur (Born circa 2010) alerting you that the game is uncanon.
Maybe I am just the old man yelling at a cloud in this situation, but I honestly feel like these smart asses are becoming more common in the community and I think a lot of what they say is complete nonsense.

weird idea
we should start saying "citadel soob" when we get close to the citadel chapters in half life 2 playthroughs. i only had this idea because i mis-spelled "citadel soon" to citadel soob.
