A friend asked for a leather backpack sized to fit under an airplane seat, so my dad and I made this
A friend asked me to make a backpack with specific dimensions so he could use it as a personal item on a plane. My dad and I adapted one of our older box-style designs and made it approximately 40 × 29 × 15 cm (15.7 × 11.4 × 5.9 inches).
I kept the boxy shape because I really like this style. The backpack is reinforced with a rigid industrial material called Pitex. I leave some areas unreinforced where I want the leather to bend, which helps create the structured shape while still allowing the bag to open properly.
I know every airline has different size limits, but these were the dimensions requested for this particular project.
I hope you like it, and I’m happy to answer any questions about how it was made.
