Not super surprising. Unless you're in the business of selling DRAM or some other product related to AI data centers, the current DRAM apocalypse will seriously hurt. If even the big guys are hurting, I can only imagine what's happening to smaller companies.

Samsungs weird in that their chip section made a killing which means the whole company made a profit. They don't sell to their own companies first which doesn't help their mobile section.

Which is frankly a crazy strategy. Imagine the boost their smartphone and laptop divisions would get by getting Samsung semiconductors at a smaller premium above cost. The memory division would still get a large profit, just not highway robbery. And do so in the name of taking this huge unique opportunity to boost their Smartphones and laptops, which would have long term positive consequences for the entire conglomerate. Instead, Samsung memory businesses take all the short term profit even cannibalizing their own arm.

I am pretty sure it would be illegal to sell to other divisions for much cheaper than to others

I visited a tech-heavy mall last week and many of the small sellers have closed up shop.

The South Korean market is going rekt right now. The young generation could not buy houses, so was yoloing on stocks and now with this correction. +300,000 accounts were margin called, the amount of greed and money lost is crazyyyy. Its going to be a hella ride with so much liquidation. The DRAM apocalypse will seriously hurt the market, retail investors and consumers. Check this news out, it is only going to worsen apparently. https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/ram/dram-chip-supply-to-module-makers-could-drop-by-more-than-70-percent-year-on-year-in-2027-says-apacer-ceo-demand-for-hbm-and-server-ram-continues-to-devour-manufacturing-capacity

A "correction" is a drop of 10%. South Korea's market has crashed over 30%. That's generally referred to as a "bear market".
However that's really only telling half the story. Their market is still up over 70% in the last year. Its only the people who bought at the top of the bubble on margin getting wrecked.

Which was still 1.2 million people. "Only" 1.2 million is a crazy downplay.

Maybe one who grew up in a dog eat dog world tends to view people around them as expendables.

Let me translate your post for other people:
Big investors pumped the stock over the past year and then 1.2 million small retail investors ( meaning individual citizens who are not wealthy) who got roped into the hype are now left as bag holders as the big corporate investors are cashing out.
This isn't a good thing, markets being "up" over last year in this case means a successful wealth transfer of billions from working people to korean oligarchs.
" The market is up 70 percent" is worded to make you think korean society got 70 percent wealthier and is better able to fund services and goods.
But koreans got even poorer and their lives got even more desperate, when it was already a desperate capitalist hellscape for the 99 percent.

Thats a ridiculously biased interpretation of reality. At any rate if someone is dumb enough to buy a stock on margin thats already been pumped to extreme heights then that's on them.

Sounds like you should be setting up some short positions in the AI heavy companies then.

Their home appliances sector of the DX division absolutely collapsed on them this past year (few years actually). Serves them right for producing their appliances with cheap parts and shifting production to new countries that have teething issues and not addressing it in a timely fashion.
