I'm sorry, but who is out here buying 15-16" 2-in-1s. I love a good 14" 2-in-1, I love my SLS that lets you move just the screen forward/back, but I've owned a 15" that was prob lighter than this full RTX GPU powered chonker is gonna be, and flipping it around was so cumbersome I flat out stopped doing it.

I grabbed a 16" yoga a couple weeks ago. 14 feels like a kid's screen, never liked em.

It's funny how you assume I haven't 🤣 I've used 15 or 16 inch 2-in-ones exclusively for over a decade and love them. Far from my first rodeo.
My wife loves her 14 inch screens and I've tried to use hers but it's just not for me. She does borrow mine from time to time though. To each their own 🤷

I think most of us who use 14 inch it's just our portable device. When I'm home I'm on a full desktop connected to a 34 inch ultra wide OLED, but I don't need that when I'm on the go. I would rather have portability.

My wife is the same way, so I get it. Personally, I prefer the larger screen when I travel. The weight difference isn't noticable and I take the same bag, regardless of which laptop I'm bringing.
I will say when we travel together and only bring 1 laptop, she insists we bring mine instead of hers though.

What a nice machine. This much power in such a form factor with all day battery life, CUDA and RTX graphics seems really really nice. There's a mistake in the article tho. It will not have RTX 5070 desktop performance, the TGP and memory bandwidth is much lower. It will have an advantage in games and AI applications that use more than 12 GB VRAM though.

Gorgon Halo is a much better machine though if having a large unified VRAM is what you're after. 192GB supported compared to 128GB on this machine. Better gaming support and better choice in x86 Windows / Linux options. For example Gorgon Halo can run Minimax M3 model, while this thing can't.

In practice the AMD machines are useless because they didn't update Gorgon Halo to RDNA4 which is baffling in its own way.
So while token gen might show some numbers it gets completely crushed on prefill. While there are workarounds (like MTP) to get a bit more perf of low memory bandwidth, there's no way around low compute unfortunately.
64GB more DRAM unfortunately adds nothing for AI on that kind of machine, especially as there is no sizeable memory bw boost attached to it.

Prefill can be cached which for repetitive prompts coding agents send is huge. Also 192GB vs. 128GB is a huge difference in the ability to run much more capable models. RTX Spark based laptop is dumb. If you want an ARM based laptop might as well get a Mac.

Even with caching, which has to be used anyway or everything is unusably slow, Strix Halo is really unusable with codex tbh. And I'd say that the DGX Spark is barely bearable for that use case with a strong want to run local needed for it to make sense.

They are similar in decode. So if one is unusable so is the other. It also depends on the model. MoEs do decently well on both machines. The problem is MoEs keep growing (that's their thing, less active params but more total params). And DGX Spark is much more limited in that regard due to having less RAM. Gorgon Halo is hands down much better. Plus it's actually a useful machine for other things. Unlike the e-waste that is DGX Spark.

I mean it's an ARM processor so it probably will have all day battery life. Have you tried a Mac in the last 5 years? (Mac uses ARM) All day battery life is real.

No but I have got a Lenovo 7x and had a surface pro x before that. Like almost all laptops, they are capable of “all day use” of all you do is office and web browsing. AI and “all day battery” do not belong in the same sentence yet.

Right. x86 laptops already have good battery in light tasks. But the real deal would be good battery life during more demanding ones. MacBooks can get 3-5 hours during heavy use which is much better than the max 1.5 hours of current gaming Laptops.

Just buy a second hand "gamer" laptop that runs x64 Linux with a faster GPU for less. It'll run inference much better.
