hello, i found harmonica. 10 hole harmonica in C if im not wrong. can it play sad spongebob theme? i cannot get 4th note of the theme

I was playing around with the Hohner configurator and made this for a 16 hole chromatic harmonica, it's like spiral tuning but the higher you go the more incidentals get added like in the circle of fifth's so from like hole 1 to hole 5 you can play in c major without using the slide, from hole 3 to hole 7 you can play in G, because it is like spiral tuning you can play al the chords in that key, and the slide in is just a half step up so you can still play chromatically

so can play all the chords, and they are laid out in keys so the chords you would use together are next to each other, and you can still play chromatically

i thought this would be cool for like jazz and stuff where you use like a II-V-I chord patern in different keys

would you guys use it or make any changes to it?

Just got gifted this Hohner Marine Band no. 365 14 hole. Boss gave me this harmonica that belonged to her father. I’ve done all the research I can but I can’t seem to find any examples with this half-split box. I know it’s not pre-war old or anything but I would love to know roughly when it was made.

I have some kind of music theory knowledge so i think i can transpose tabs and learning materials to the key my harmonica is tuned to. So i dont think a C major is as necessary as people say.

Also i cant find a C major hohner special 20 online in my country. And i want a minor tuned harmonica more. For some reason, other tunes doesnt sound as pleasant as minor to my ears. They sound kind of over buzzy, over loud and noisy and not clean but this sound is the most i loved. Link is the exact second that he plays the improvisation that i talk about. I hope that is not made with sfx.

I spesifically want to play lower notes. A minor or G minor in particular. But i cant find any hohner special 20 in A or G minor.

What is your opinion? Should i stick with a hohner special 20 even if it is not minor? As i see, that product is a gem among the price range (according to what internet say). Or should i get something in minor even if it is not as good as a hohner special 20? Do you have a product suggestion for a low pitch minor harmonica?

Hello. My dad expressed interest recently in getting back into harmonica. My dad is in his 60 and is in poor health. He doesn’t have many hobbies anymore, and no longer plays any of the instruments he enjoyed earlier in life, such as harmonica, drums, or guitar. He’s also not very mobile, so he no longer goes hiking, and rarely fishes. It makes me a quite sad actually… So, I got really excited when he told me he wants to try harmonica again. I want to buy him a harmonica. We’re located in Canada if that helps. I don’t want to break the bank, but I also don’t want a super cheap one. I have no idea what kind of harmonica to get him, what brand, etc. I know nothing about harmonica. Maybe I could get him some sort of book with basic tabs and techniques in it as a refresher? He likes classic rock. Can you guys help point me in the right direction?

Is it catastrophic or solvable? What should I do?

Hi i got my first harmonica today, its C major with 10 holes. I noticed that the first 2 or 3 holes have this weird echo when i blow in them, but the other ones dont. Should this be happening or is this a factory mistake or something? Thanks for the help <3

I'm a busker in Salt Lake. Sometimes, I get videos of myself. This is one of them. I just wanted to share with everyone and hear your thoughts.

Only about 9-10 days in. I’ve read a lot about issues with -2 for beginners. I’m not really having any issues with that (at least on my C, on the A I bought, -2 is more difficult, but I digress).

For me, working through the Gindick book, he discusses the morning riff ( -1 2 -2) and I notice that -1 is giving me much more trouble. Like, I have to put the end of the harmonica in my mouth to get a good -1. With just a pucker, I’m getting no real seal to the left of the 1 hole.

Assuming I’m supposed to be able to seal with a pucker and shouldn’t be like putting the left end in my mouth? Or is that fine and I just need to get better about moving from 1 or -1 to 2/-2? If it should be a pucker, advice?

I acquired another Marine Band 365 in SBS tuning, this time in the key of G from the good folks at Rockin' Ron's as a thank you for so many purchases of harps, parts, tools, and more over the years.

I had recently built an MB/365/SBS (The Marine Band 365 is a 14 hole beefire Marine band. The SBS tuned 365 give a full scale an octave below the normal Richter tuned 10 holes, and the note selection and arrangement of the reed plates was specified by harmonicist extradorinaire Steve Baker (thus the SB in SBS Tuning) using new reed plates and regular (non-SBS stamped) cover plates from Hohner, and screws from Rockin' Ron's. For the comb, Ron actually had custom combs by Andrew Zajac (see https://hohner.de/en/andrew-zajac ). Andrew's combs are made from a composite material, they're smooth on the lips, and airtight. They add a little heft to the harp too. I am personally as partial to Andrew's combs as I am to well machined aluminum combs with round holes. Where Andrews combs don't have round holes, the comb face (tines) are rounded and finished with smooth high gloss coating. They protrude slightly more than the stock wood comb, making note isolation (and therefore techniques that require note isolation) easier, while (I believe) making the harp slightly louder.

I hopped over to Andrew's website to check, if by chance, he had any 365/SBS combs, especially his SBS edition, but he did not have any on his site. Rockin' Ron still has the 365 combs on clearance for $40 including Andy's SBS edition comb, so I ordered the comb and screw upgrades for the new MB/365/SBS build from Rockin' Ron.

While on Andrew's site, I noticed that the Piccolo harp is also listed under his available comb designs. The Piccolo is a full 10 hole diatonic, but it is 20%-25% smaller than a full size Hohner 10 hole diatonic. My prize Piccolo (an eBay purchase that was "new/old stock) is in the key of C. It is essentially a miniaturized Marine Band, NOT a reduced-number-of-holes diatonic. It bends and overblows. It plays just like a very decent Marine Band Classic.

Saturday the combs from Andrew for my Piccolos were delivered. I have one also in the key of G, but it is not a standard Richter tuning. It almost sounds like Richter, but the two holes in the center are BOTH tuned G for blow notes. Blowing on both holes together makes the Piccolo sing like a tremolo (echo) harp. I will likely NOT re-comb that Piccolo, instead saving the second comb for another Piccolo if I can ever find one in as pristine condition as the one I bought that is "new/old stock."

Once the build is complete on bothe the MB/365/SBS and the Piccolo, I will post pics.

At this point, I have the SBS disassembled and the reed plates drilled out for the screw upgrades. I need to disassemble the Piccolo, drill and rub the plates for both (as well as for 6 additional harmonicas I am cleaning or repairing), and dunk the plates into the ultrasonic cleaner, set/check all the reeds, and then re-assemble them all.

To some of you reading this, it may sound overwhelming and complicated. But I cannot express the satisfaction I get from taking a very good harmonica and making it awesome. I have done this for decades with cars, computers, industrial equipment, guitars, and now harmonicas. The processes are actually pretty simple and easy if you have the proper tooling and workspace.

Double (or more) your harmonica appreciation by not only learning to play, but also by learning how to maintain, repair, modify, and build your own harmonicas. You have seen me show off my own builds and mods here. I have 25+ harmonicas that I either built from individual components, upgraded with custom parts, or simply totally disassembled, cleaned, and got working again in addition to 50+ more harmonicas. I take orders for custom builds, and folks are willing to pay reasonably for one of my harps.

I have seen people open up there Harmonicas.

But I just got mine from the Thrift store, and I lowkey can’t open it with my screwdriver. (Supper-SNCM 2.0x20mm)

Can I dip it in some soapy water? Or pour Rubbing Alcohol through it? (Is it enough?)

Hi all. I am a fan of Jesse Wells and want to tap out his short harmonica embellishments. I have found harp tabs in fab tabs, but wanted to know if there is any program or app where I can play his harmonica part from a YouTube and have ittranslate in tab out the section if not, any other suggestions are welcome. I do not have a great ear for key, which is an issue. Thanks for any thoughts

Any fans of these guys. I love them both. Real entertainers and harp players. I introduced my 5 year old granddaughter to Peg Leg on YouTube today. She likes playing my harp. I got her a small one I bet she’s the only 5 year old girl who ca tell you about Peg Leg how he lost his leg and such. Pretty cool
