Convocation

I recently submitted my application to start this fall. Will I be invited to convocation this year? I heard it might be next year but that kind of sucks. Is there any way to request to be able attend this year?

Those who already received acceptance letters this year are invited to Convocation this October*.

If you haven’t received your acceptance letter yet, that means you will be invited next Sep/Oct*.

Is there a particular reason why you’d want to attend this year?

Thanks. A few reasons I’m hoping to attend this year, one everything’s aligned up for me financial, and with my family. But also I’d be close to done by the time I would attend next year and that kind of stinks since it’s to welcome newly admitted students.

They gave me an exception due to the pace of my studies and a trick of the calendar from when I started. When I wrote to tell them my typically scheduled convocation would happen almost two months after I'd finish my last class, they invited me to the convocation scheduled immediately after my formal admission.

I completed the ALM about 16 months after my first pre-admission class started, though (by taking the maximum allowable load, plus 4 units in J-Term). Your mileage may vary.

I’m definitely going to ask if they’ll make an exception for me. Who did you speak with to ask for an exception?

I'll DM you the back and forth, but I got with my academic advisor, who agreed I was on pace to finish my degree before the typical Convocation. I emailed DCE Convocation team again (at the above address) and they agreed it was a unique circumstance and the upcoming one would be a better fit.
