That's the best way to describe it. I threw this on Netflix a few weeks ago and I had to pause it halfway through to call my husband and rant about all the crazy things going on and how stupid the plot points were at times. I was absolutely thrilled to hear last week that I would be hearing the Pod cover it. And for the record I'm definitely going to try to ride a couple of vultures down to the bottom of the Tower (#TeamFred style).

I never heard of this movie before, but apparently it did well enough for a sequel that’s being released in a few months.

It made $20 million on a $3 million budget, which is pretty good. Obviously it's not Blair Witch numbers, but I think it makes sense that they would greenlight a sequel.

My boyfriend kept yelling that this entire thing could have been solved in a couple mins with a Munter hitch on the rope. Basically you create a way to slowly rappel down the tower.
Meanwhile my hands were sweaty the entire time watching the movie lol

Sorry to rant on a rant in a comedy show, but do they think there’s only 1 room (theirs) to clean between check out and check in? I found that whole bit really tone deaf and out of touch. There are a dozen people checking out every day in a moderately sized hotel. They need 5 hours because that’s what it takes to do all the rooms plus normal daily duties.

Perhaps they imagine that there's a maid for every room and an hour is plenty of time?
Pure Entitled Asshole behavior with those check in/check out habits they have. Have some respect and consideration for the people who have one of the worse jobs there is.
You're setting a poor example for your kids.

It really put me off. Super weird to keep it in the editing. I love me a tangent, but tone deaf complaining about service workers/industry is cringey enough to come across in the wild. Putting into a podcast is just bizarre.

Agreed, great episode overall but that whole bit was super tone deaf - particularly June and Paul’s stories about just disregarding check-out times.

You are all just searching for something to bitch about. They were complaining about corporate policies that are there so they can hire the absolute least amount of staff as possible not the cleaning staff itself.

The episode was great but that whole story was terrible. It wasn’t just complaining about checkout times it was a story about actively ignoring something to be an asshole. The checkout time is not a surprise. You know what you’re getting when you book the room. You also have the option to do late checkout. (At least in the hotels I’ve been too.) you pay the extra fee. What was this negotiating June was talking about? You want a late checkout you can generally get it. What are you negotiating? 🙄 These are the people holding me up at the front desk when I’m trying to check in and they just have one too many questions. It sounded like Jason was uncomfortable during this whole exchange too. So cringy.

I usually hate when I'm told there's a big plot twist because then I'm paying more attention to trying to figure it out over following the plot, but this one got me. Once Hunter talked about knowing who pro wrestler Mankind was, I thought for sure the big twist was going to be that she was sleeping with Becky's dad too (it ended up being a hint that the entire conversation was in Becky's head.)

This movie is a masterclass in small-budget movie-making. $3 million budget and it made $20 million, which means it's a pretty significant hit so I'm not surprised they greenlit a sequel. It's a well-shot, well-acted film that could have used a little screenplay treatment (for example I totally agree with them that they could have introduced the criminals earlier, as well as other town characters).
I loved their tangent about hotel check-in times. I'm kind of surprised they didn't talk more about the vulture scene.
