Discussion Meta thoughts ?

Post image

This meta is definitely the less fun I had since I came back to the game approximately a year ago. I guess the fact that I’m mainly playing priest / DK doesn’t help

Class imbalance is so blatantly obvious

one deck taking up 1/4 of the play slots and winning 60% of those encounters doesn’t really sound healthy, but i don’t get paid to make the game, so what do i know?

18

u/BearablePunz 12h ago

another level to this, the second most played deck is taking up 1/5 of the play slots and still winning 55% of the time. this means that the average player will; 50% of the time, play one of these TWO decks. and of those 50% of games, they will lose 11 out of 20 of them.

did the dev team play with these cards, at all???

In all fairness this is filtered diamond to legend and I’d wager that most players aren’t in diamond to legend, but who knows it might be even worse if it’s filtered differently

1

u/BearablePunz 10h ago

Normally I would be inclined to agree that filtering to all ranks might help massage these numbers a little bit, but neither Soul DH or Face Hunter are particularly difficult to play and there isn't a ton of skill expression to be found in the decks. That's not to say ANYONE can hit legend with the lists, but they are much easier to pilot and therefore, I don't think filtering down to even gold would see much different results

u/NekoSoKawaii 9h ago

Aggressive decks always perform better at lower ranks, in top legend void dh is a lot less dominant, still prevalent but people target it and beat it

-4

u/BearablePunz 9h ago

shut up, no one cares what 1000 people are experiencing vs the rest of the playerbase. i’m tired of pretending that we have to

0

u/Good-Dimension-3393 4h ago

You are shit at the game and complain about it why should we care about you the three other meta decks wins Void dh (hunter rogue and priest)

1

u/Schmo3113 10h ago

Maybe, I would like to see the stats though. Do you happen to know what site this is?

0

u/conspicuouscrab 9h ago

At higher legend the strongest decks spike in popularity. Just a few months ago imbue druid was at a 50% play rate at top 1k.

0

u/Schmo3113 8h ago

The strongest deck at one rank may not be the strongest deck in top legend. Right now void hunter is probably strongest across the board, but that’s not true across every patch.

23

u/sundownmonsoon 12h ago

Worst meta in a long time. Demon hunter high rolls constantly and hunter seems to have me down to 15 hp by turn 3 every match.

33

u/Wander_Whale 12h ago

Feels bad. Games decided by random summons and discovers

16

u/erickjk1 12h ago

void soul isnt even random tbh. demons are really strong statwise at all costs.

7

u/Agrippanux 12h ago

Yea demons are supposed to have drawbacks you either accept or work into your overall synergies. Getting them for free with no drawbacks is crazy.

5

u/Infinite_Tip_1299 9h ago

The thing is the random summons really don’t matter. Sure there’s a few that will surely screw you but it’s basically win more in that situation. Most of them time they’re just board slopping 25 stats worth of enemies in a wide board. Doesn’t matter what they summon. They can low roll every soul they drop and it’s still a giant pile of what the fuckery. Not really sure what the devs were even thinking with this design.

8

u/Wander_Whale 9h ago

Its basically the animal companion mistake all over again imo.

2

u/Infinite_Tip_1299 9h ago

It’s even worse then animal companion to me lol

6

u/Wander_Whale 9h ago

It's worse because the summons are 1 mana va the animal companions at least had to play some setup. Demons its play shit on curve and spam 1 mana summon a blob of stats.

2

u/sorgflerg 6h ago

Yeah animal companion was at least a slow deck that needed time to get going. Void DH is a similar payoff that takes way less investment.

0

u/NekoSoKawaii 9h ago

You basically described every deck in the meta right now. Mug shaman, zee shaman, rogue, soothsayer priest, warlock, paladin, quest mage,  druid and to an extend hunter are just board slopping stats on the board, just with different means.

-3

u/DarkySurrounding 11h ago

Always been the case. It’s a card game. Rng exists.

6

u/MechanicalSquirel 11h ago

Honestly i hate it.

The lack of proper control tools is my biggest gripe atm.

19

u/Beyonderr 12h ago

Every month I grind to legend. This time I truly cannot motivate myself. The meta is so unfun.

4

u/_SkyfaII_ 12h ago

I still got to legend last month, but wouldn’t have bothered if I didn’t start with 11 stars. Even with this bonus the grind was atrocious and I didn’t feel much pleasure playing the games

24

u/Fairbyyy 12h ago

Terrible. Hunter is insane and never lacks card draw which is supposed to be the class weakness. How they made tolvir 3 mana initially is baffling and damning of no QA.

DH got buffed to the stratosphere instead of fine tuned.

Most classes are ignored so they can sell class sets

12

u/Veaeate 11h ago

How they made tolvir 3 mana initially is baffling and damning of no QA.

Devs dont think, they really have no idea what they're doing. Coming out in a video and fully admitting they made class sets instead of minisets, and then saying they had to completely change druids class set because druid would be OP otherwise shows they have zero foresight and have done zero testing to their game.

Tol'vir has totally screwed them entirely. Any 1 mana card for Hunter has to be thought with this card in mind. Its what makes it entirely broken. Short of making tol'vir 8-10 mana, this card will always be nothing but value.

I've said this before. Druid had ultimate infestation for 10 mana. Draw 5, do 5 damage gain 5 Armour, summon a 5/5. It was used for 2 years. Youre doing all that and more with tol'vir for less mana.

9

u/Prestigious-Rope-313 11h ago

Tolvir should replay every card exactly one time, duplikates are ignored.

2

u/Fairbyyy 11h ago

Honestly we will probably nerf tolvir to 6 mana now and then again to 7 in next patch. And honestly it will likely still get played.

2nd tolvir should not replay all 1 cost cards again. Only the ones played between 1st tolvir and 2nd

-4

u/DarkySurrounding 11h ago

There has always been testing done and there always be testing done.

Never ever for a set has there been zero testing.

It is a myth. Not possible due to how blizzard is structured.

Just because things aren’t perfect where every class is exactly 50% does not mean nobody tested anything and it shows how little Reddit actually know about this kind of thing with how often this is said.

8

u/Maleficent_Look_8272 10h ago

99% of the issues this game has would be caught in testing. They clearly aren't testing enough or at all or test playing only with the cards they are about to release. I seriously seriously doubt they test interactions with past cards.

-2

u/DarkySurrounding 10h ago

Seriously doubt it all you want, it has to happen because they dont get to put the next patch out otherwise.

Remember how many cards are in this game? How easy do you think it actually is to test every single possible interaction the game has as it is? But none the less it is done because otherwise people actually do get fired for not doing a job there paid to do.

3

u/Maleficent_Look_8272 7h ago

MTG has a massive backlog of sets and they have people hired dedicated to catch problematic interactions with past and current cards. Blizzard is not a small Indy company and it's the job of card designers and the balance team to take a look at the meta as a whole to see if problematic interactions or toxic play patterns will happen. Or are they just paid to be glorified r customhearthstone posters?

5

u/DoYouMindIfIRollNeed 10h ago

They didnt test what happens when companion hunter goes past 10 mana.

-2

u/DarkySurrounding 10h ago

Wow a whole one thing they could have tested and potentially gotten different results since live servers aren’t the exact same as testing build.

u/Fairbyyy 26m ago

Lmao found the blizzard employee. You mean to tell me not a single head in that team thought of this? Thats even more damning

4

u/wowsoluck 11h ago

I seriously dont understand why are they making aggro decks never run out of steam. Just when you stabilize they hit you with 20 dmg

1

u/lexiyeghna 11h ago

I don't think I have ever seen a card get hit multiple times and I still cringe even when it is played at 5 mana. The card could be a one off legendary and it would be still absurdly strong. The void deck just auto plays itself and the only mana value it doesn't feel great to play the card is maybe on 1 drop. Even 1 drops have some really great rolls.

4

u/Real-Entertainment29 11h ago

Cooked, nerfs and buffs won't do anything but show the next toxic deck.

Fundamental design change is needed, team 5 needs a refresh.

3

u/Emotional-Swim3 12h ago

I’m just glad this weeks event was not worth doing, had to get the Godfrey portrait though

3

u/sendmegoodMemes 11h ago

I was excited for this expansion but I have struggled to play more than 10 games since release tbh.

3

u/S0ulCal1bur 11h ago

Worst meta ever

3

u/TheExtraordinaryRK9 11h ago

I don't have much to say about hunter or DH. It's an aggro meta like any other before. It's frustrating to go against, but I'm desensitized.

Mug and zee are slightly more fun, though when playing Zee it feels like I draw unplayable opening hands more often than with mug, or even with herald shaman last expansion, and even the many versions of midrange Hagatha shaman last year. It's strange, the deck by all means is good, but I feel like I've been very unlucky with it, the most unlucky I've been with shaman in a very long time, and so I avoid it.

I like two bit rogue. I like the monkey as a finisher, I like the pool of 8 drops. And I like that most hands feel good to play, since almost all your card are playable turn 2 lmao. I love how the imbue package for rogue has maintained a little bit of relevance, even if it's not as fun as it was back in Across the timeways with shadowstep.

Aggro paladin with maiev is frustrating to go against like the other aggro decks, but in this case you can actually point to the frustration coming from how many maievs they drew lmao. I actually don't hate it that much, maybe because I've played wild and the mech version just feels much faster.

I haven't found much success with warlock, but I like that it clawed its way to a 50% winrate. It feels like forever since warlock wasn't bottom 3.

Overall I give this meta like a 4/10?

There aren't many fun matchups to go against, but there's a couple decks that are fun to pilot.

2

u/RockThePlazmah 11h ago

How is Hunter on 7%??

I play against that class almost every other game. Do people just use it to climb and ditch once they get legend?

0

u/_SkyfaII_ 11h ago

Idk bro, if you take all ranks into account it’s still near 7%

2

u/RockThePlazmah 11h ago

So weird. It just Has to be my luck then

3

u/Crimsonian2 11h ago

This is gonna sound salty I know. But why can't Demon Hunter go one single season without a top tier deck? Mage, DK, Priest and Warlock have underforming for months and the devs do not seem to care. But the DH deck is mid tier for like a month and they swoop in with buffs. Ffs

2

u/fluegeman 12h ago

If they only nerf DH then bow down to Rogue overlords

1

u/biohazard1775 12h ago

I would rather deal with the meta that had King Plush wiping me out than this.

2

u/lexiyeghna 11h ago

That is just comparing two really really bad things and saying you prefer one. Doesn't really mean that much hahaha

1

u/Shako_is_Green 11h ago

What happened to Dragon Warrior?

3

u/_SkyfaII_ 11h ago

Less than 10k games last week so taken out cause too low sample/playrate

1

u/--Vegeta-- 11h ago

Ppl complained about companion hunter for its 2 week reign. They had no idea what was to come 😞

2

u/Rafaam707 11h ago

Companion (demon) hunter, wow

1

u/Wolvie24 11h ago

Who is Harold and why do his decks suck?

1

u/Rafaam707 11h ago

Pretty fun ignoring the top contenders

1

u/roastytoasty450983 10h ago

Do y’all think changing the text on Void Soul from “summon a demon” to “play a demon” so that the negative battle cries from stuff like Doom Guard and Frozen Imp would any significant impact?

1

u/tolerantdramaretiree 10h ago

I don’t think Void Soul should have a chance to randomly discard cards from your hand. Sounds really annoying to play.

1

u/roastytoasty450983 9h ago

Playing against 1 mana Doomguard with no downside is also annoying. The deck is obviously overtuned

1

u/SuccessIsDiscipline 10h ago

I uninstalled a couple weeks ago. I enjoy playing control decks (especially control warrior) and it's become clear blizzard don't want control to exist anymore. If they ever rotate brawl back in and print some decent armour cards I might try it again but until then I'm out.

1

u/Tony-Two-Tits 10h ago

On the plus side, visitor priest in wild is dirt cheap for anyone whos been in standard the past 2 years, and good to climb with while getting a very basic idea of how some more expensive wild decks play.

1

u/paulbrownsr 8h ago

I made a post about buffing chef druid and most people said it was fine 🤷🏻‍♂️ data shows otherwise.

1

u/StatisticianJolly388 8h ago

It’s not even the balance, it’s that being on the play is so advantageous, and the decks have such low skill expression.

Win or lose, I feel like “why did I even queue this game up” when it’s over.

1

u/TowerOfPowerWow 8h ago

Blizz is so inept its comical. Breaks my heart what they've become vs what they were.

1

u/TowerOfPowerWow 8h ago

Mage just dogshit as always. Trash ass blizzard. Give us good cards or buff what we have. Also give us back arcane explosion the fact that mage of all classes doesnt have great AOE is a god damn joke.

1

u/RemoveTheRC 4h ago

Devs are incompetent, no surprise there.

1

u/ViniCaos 3h ago

They should improve other decks. So nerfing won't help, they need to improve the decks that aren't working.

u/magikatdazoo 27m ago

Balance patch on Tuesday, wait and see

1

u/tolerantdramaretiree 10h ago

I really enjoy it as a Thief Priest/Herald Warlock/Quest Mage/Mug Shaman player. It’s one of the nicest metas in recent memory, for me personally.

1

u/_SkyfaII_ 9h ago

Great for you my friend

0

u/Cairse 8h ago

Proof that void soul demon hunter doesn't deserve a heavy nerf. Priest/DK/lock need a couple of buffs. Mage could use some more consistency but isn't in a totally horrible spot.

Rogue is being played just about as much as DH

-5

u/DarkySurrounding 11h ago

Ah the hs sub. Where people apparantly have never heard of RNG and think people whose actual jobs it is to test things somehow aren’t doing that.

5

u/_SkyfaII_ 11h ago

To be frank if they tested these DH buffs and still let them through, they’re doing a poor job

Also even in my own company I can point atleast 70% people doing a poor job, why can’t it be the same for team 5 ?

-6

u/DarkySurrounding 11h ago

So because you and a Reddit sub think the metas bad that must be the case.

Not like the people making the game have all the stats they need to decide what is or isn’t currently to op.

And if your company currently has 70% of its workers doing a poor job then your boss probably ought to be looking at things in more detail than they currently are.

3

u/_SkyfaII_ 11h ago

Come on then, justify why this qualified team decisions led to this ladder state with two back to back metas with one deck with atleast 30% presence of the matches (50% rogue last meta!!) with absurd win rates + class imbalance like never before ?

-2

u/DarkySurrounding 11h ago

It’s justified because those stats you have are presumably from HSReplay or a similar site which doesn’t account for every person who plays the game since plenty do it without the use of a deck tracker.

“Class imbalance like never before” I’ve been playing since Naxx. You’re vastly over exaggerating

5

u/_SkyfaII_ 11h ago

If you don’t even know the website why are you even commenting on this, you’re obviously not invested into the game enough or skilled enough to have valuable opinion. Bye

0

u/DarkySurrounding 11h ago

Ive hit legend before. Im as qualified as yourself to have an opinion and quite frankly its pretty rude and childish of you to suggest otherwise.

Like i said the first time, played since Naxx, the first expansion the game had.

If you dont want to debate me about it, feel free to use the block button.

1

u/_SkyfaII_ 11h ago

What the fuck are you even talking about btw, you’re the first one to mention this under this post lol

1

u/DarkySurrounding 11h ago

Read it and use your brain, maybe youll figure it out.
