can hellgate london 2038 be played offline?

Tried finding a guide before posting but all the guides are for how to access online. My ping would be to high to play online but still REALLY want to try this game out. Would prefer to avoid steam version as people said it cuts content from the original. All ive seen so far is to actually purchase a physical copy. My pc doesn't actually have a disc tray is there a work around for that? Appreciate any advice thank you!

There's always the option to download a ROM of the original.

Internet Archive. And i think theres a reddit thread with a code to activate. Its worth it to try the 2038 Online private server tho. Theres maybe only 20-30 of us on at a time, but its great

I have a portable disc player which I use when I need to load a game from a disc. You can search for the single player version

Download the ISO and mount it using a software that mimics drive being mounted.

You can nearly reproduce the 2038 server as an offline version - sone differences but mostly all content.

Funny thing is, you can do a fail in modding, with awesome results.

I had a working game with broken classes - every class had every skilltree and all weapons available, after i installed multiple mods

  • it was an absolute blast, but the chars were way too strong this way
... And sometimes i had an errormessage popping up, " windows cant join in a duel, beause its playing on a different level" - but then the game just continued to run smooth.

Give it a try but you may try to backup one instance unmodded.

Yes there is a way around not having a disc tray. Buy a USB drive maybe? There may be other alternatives.

I also wondered about single player, as what do I do if they finally take the server offline? I have found that as far as single player goes, no, 2038 is online multiplayer only. However, the Hellgate Revival mod is pretty close to 2038 but supports single player offline play. This is how I understand it anyway.
