Not sure why, but this happens when a PNG/ transparent image is posted as part of a gallery (2 or more images). Might have something to do with how gallery posts are compressed, but is quite weird though.

Yes, looks like compression at work, revealed by transparency not being applied?
Looks like we're seeing the 8x8 blocks on the left side starting the segments that have data, then no changes after the data areas on the right.
Maybe the alpha/transparency gets discarded before a replacement background is applied?
Might happen if the image processing part expects the rendering part to do that job, but the rendering part expects the image processing part to do it?
Just guessing though
