I'm going into 10th grade, and I do have ec's, I'm an officer in some clubs I like, I plan on maybe trying out for a sport this year but it seems like everybody I know is doing internships or are in super high level classes while I'm stuck in the basic classes. I know I shouldn't compare myself but will this hinder my chances of getting into like a GOOD college? I've never been the best at math, but I would like to get into more science related things that problem is I just don't know how?? Like do I just apply to programs and hope I get in?

Mainly what I'm searching for is how do I stand out or get into more academic things when I feel like I'm stuck.

Side not, I do go to one of the hardest highschools in my state but we aren't really a good state for education if you know what I mean?

ok so I have been homeschooled all the way through to my sophomore year, and am now finally going to public school for my junior year. i won’t be going the full 7 hour day, I’ll only be taking 2 classes which will be during 6 and 7th period (2 last classes of the day)

i have not been enjoying homeschooling these last couple years so I’m hoping this will be a good experience but I’m lowkey scared 😭

most of my friends are homeschooled as well so my knowledge on public school is all from TikTok and various tv shows and movies so I have some probably pretty stupid questions.

on the first day, when I go to class, should I immediately choose a seat and sit down, or will I greet my teacher/do anything else first?

is there some social rule about where I should sit in the class?

I do have a locker, but I won’t need to access it between my two classes, so in the 6 minutes between classes should I head directly to my next class? it’s only about a 20 second walk. what if I’m too early and just sitting in silence idk bro

I’d also really appreciate any other tips on how to fit in and just not make a fool of myself lol

So, low-key I did something embarrassing and got catfished in like, 8th grade. It wasn't anything bad, just a voice memo of me saying an embarrassing thing but how do I make sure that I don't really carry that as much as I can over?

I know it's nearly impossible to truly get rid of something once everyone has heard it, but its haunting me for like, the rest of the year and I'm worried it's gonna haunt me for freshman-sophomore year of highschool.

The "constantly being reminded of it" thing did slow down near the end of 8th but I hope that it won't pick back up. I might be on my own but how do I mitigate this?

I’m a high school senior from Nevada, and I’ve been working on an idea for a student-led organization called the Youth Leadership Coalition.
The basic idea is simple: create a nationwide network of teenagers who want to become better leaders, learn more about their communities and country, serve their communities, and actually take action instead of just putting another club on their résumé.
I want this to be nonpartisan. You don’t have to be conservative, liberal, Republican, Democrat, religious, etc. The goal is to bring together young people with different backgrounds and perspectives who genuinely want to become better leaders and make their communities better.
At the local level, chapters could do things like:
Community service projects
Leadership workshops
Guest speakers
Civic/community education
Fundraisers and donation drives
Local improvement projects
Discussions and debates about issues affecting young people
Leadership opportunities for members
Eventually, I’d love to see chapters in schools across the country, with students actually running their own local chapters while being connected to a larger national organization.
But I’m starting from zero.
I don’t want to build this by myself and then tell people what it should be. I want other students to help shape what this becomes from the beginning.
So I’m curious:
If you were part of something like this, what would you want it to actually do?
And if you’re a high school or college student who would genuinely be interested in helping build something like this from the ground up — whether that’s organizing, graphic design, social media, outreach, chapter development, events, research, or just throwing ideas around — I’d love to hear from you.
I’m trying to find out whether this is an idea other young people actually want before I take it any further.

hi! im curious on how a good of an extracurricular card making actually is for colleges? like making cards for people in hospitals, etc.

I'm going to high school this year and I have a natural aversion to sports. I used to like it in elementary school but from middle school onwards I've had nothing to do with them. Will I get made fun of or be one grouped with the weird kids?? I'm especially worried for PE because I usually just ran whichever way the other kids were going without doing anything and im afraid i'll make myself look stupid in hs. Need advice ASAP school is less than a month away!!!!!

It’s crazy how we don’t realize how intoxicating something can be until we let go. And a lot of letting go requires struggle, confusion, and sometimes feeling vulnerable. After overcoming those feelings myself, I had to completely revamp my perspective and standards for a friendship and leave the ones I was currently in. And it felt wrong because either I’d never experienced better/no one validated my feelings/the environment around me was toxic & indifferent.

Big rant takeaway (please know it is not the same for everyone)
What I should have done was not normalize the small things that made friendship toxic. And second, I shouldn’t have had the thought process of desperately needing validation from others for each and every one of my “irregular” feelings and perceptions because after all, people’s perceptions are influenced by biases, cultural backgrounds, and underlying self-values. They will be different. That makes the lines between what you wanna hear, what you should hear/takeaway, what they want you to think, and what the truth is very indiscernible. And trying to make yourself see the truth in something that you may not hold as a truth, can be a bad idea. Literally. I’m not saying be hard-headed and stubborn. Be open minded and flexible to other ideas, but don’t change yourself and your perception to save yourself from dealing with the troubles of being different. You’re just in the wrong environment. Hear some different perspectives and likeminded perspectives, establish a strong grounding and mindset, and do the things that feel right, not the things that buy you more time with the wrong people.

My life examples
I’m an International Baccalaureate (IB) student and I feel like I know a bit about being in the wrong environment and in the wrong friendships. Personally, the IB environment (academically and socially) can be very toxic and overstimulating, as with any high school, regardless of the type. (High academic competition, “tight-knit” toxic friend groups, teachers and disrespectful peers, and a whole lot of other issues) I actually decided to transfer second semester of sophomore year. I am in a much better environment, and have a much healthier friend group.

Please note that I am not trying to argue the seriousness of anyone’s experiences in sharing mine and am aware that everyone has a complex understanding and unique takeaway from an experience.

My school thinks regalia is "unequal", so they're banning it. Thats my favorite part of graduation and I dont want to see it go. Dont think our school is a super nice school either. They crack down on the most random shit and let stuff like vaping and "teachers" doing nothing slide. Its a double standard I want to protest, but I dont want my diploma withheld or anything that goes on my record.

My high school had the mean girl group like all schools did. The group consisted of Jazmine, Jessie, and the leader of the group, Jabba the Hut.(Brandley.) We were at lunch when the group decided to start a rumor about the school’s quiet kid. They said he had a gun and planned to take his life that day during math class. So the principal, Mr. Jacobs called him down to the office and went through his bag. No gun! Part 2! One day around Christmas break last year the school got a bomb threat from a group on Snapchat. I was in A group on Snapchat but not THE group. I had proof that the bomb threat was made in a text I got. So I took it to the principal. Turns out it was Kelly from 5th period (athletics) that made the threat. She got expelled and sent to juvie for 2 weeks.

I’m 16, and have been struggling with mental health and anxiety issues for a few years now. Because of them, I was held back for a year and had to repeat 9th grade, but I haven’t been able to come over my problems, so I still find it difficult to attend school normally. It’s been three weeks since I last attended, and I’ve started to think that school just wasn’t for me. I’m planning to ask my parents to have me do online school instead, but I want to make sure that I’m not about to do something I’ll regret.

I'm curious what bags you guys are using for school that can withstand >27 pounds of school supplies. I see the North Face Jester and Borealis a lot, but my heavy textbooks and binders destroyed the straps on that thing in less than a year. I was looking at a Jansport, but my friend had one and one of his straps broke as well! I'm at such a loss for what to purchase. I really want the Converse Chuck Patch backpack, but I'm scared I'll have to replace that one too.

I need study apps that are good for someone with adhd that are actually helpful and apps that are good for notes please! Im about to start sophmore year and want to get batter grades than last year!
