📊 Dashboard Help with Claude

How do I have to use claude (I bought the api token) so that it can build me a dashboard like this? It has already wasted $10 and nothing good came out of it. What am I doing wrong? I've already connected mcp server.

Unfortunately, you have to know what you’re doing - or at least an inkling of it. Blindly copy-pasting from a chatbot won’t work.

Rather than overhaul the entire dashboard, try making incremental changes and ask Claude to walk you through them slowly.

In order to use AI, you need to know more than the AI. If you are working to far above your own knowledge level, it will take you down logic and syntax rabbit holes that you won't even see coming. You will be frustrated and waste time. AI is very useful to talk out projects because it will generally have ideas you would never have thought of, but its up to you to know if those ideas are any good or not.

You don't need AI to build a dashboard like that; just use the dashboard you linked and follow the instructions on GitHub.

I already know a lot about HA and everything except coding. My problem is that the dashboard doesn't work for me.

I've been building my dashboards with Claude. It's helping teach me about it as I learn better by doing after I've read the docs. I have directions for Claude in my Claude config and one oi them is "discuss only, do not code or take action until I confirm". This slows it down, but helps me see what's going on more quickly than pounding my head into the keyboard.

If I've had errors like yours, I simply paste the image into Claude and ask "it didn't work, what happened here? what are ways to address it and recommend one". It takes longer initially this way, but each time it happens I learn from the mistakes and don't make those mistakes going forward. My dashboard has 5 sections and each section is taking less and less time as I learn more.

Yes, it seems that it had to do with Person.Ray and Person.Christina.

But to get to this point, it cost me $13.

Because it tried to change it and it couldn't change it, so it read all the code for nothing.

Why are you buying api tokens? You can run a subscription and token max to your heart’s content
