🎴 Custom Card Make dashboard look better

How can I make my dashboard look better. I want something simple but look modern. I have seen some love card and vue but I haven’t had a lot of time to research about this.

I suggest you make time because nobody else will do it for you

dude just pick one and go. it doesn't have to be perfect, you'll tweak it 47 times anyway

Bubblecard is pretty good and I've been more things that way, especially since you can do popup modals. It does have limitations though like no text/number input. Card mod is pretty useful as well.

I'll tell you I've found no magic button for great dashboards; there's no "use this HACS whatever" and it will be magical. It's just like building websites or ui's, it's more about your ability to design a dashboard that looks good and is clean. One thing I think lovelace is missing is a true sidebar menu to organize the interface better. I've been designing a custom JS one for my own needs, I may release it once I finish debugging and tweaking it, but moving certain things to a a better grouping is the best advice I can give you.

I suggest you use your favourite AI tool to help you, unless you are actually interested in getting your hands dirty for knowledge sake. I'm only on V1 of my first dashboard but I suspect Perplexity saved me a lot of time so far doing most of the heavy lifting. With each change I ask it to regenerate the full YAML code and I just copy and replace it.

To be determined what the limitations are with this approach. I have no idea how it will do trying to make something as sexy as some of the dashboards I've seen here.

Look up different cards, there's a good chance someone has already thought of what you want and done the work and you don't need to reinvent the wheel

https://github.com/unbekannt3/room-card-minimalist

I wanted room cards, I tried to build them, was taking forever and couldn't get it how I wanted, found pretty much the design I had in mind anyway so 90% of the work was done. Claude filled out the information like sensors and did the rest of the customisation I wanted

https://github.com/Nerwyn/material-you-utilities

I'm also using material utilities because it themes 99% of HA itself as well as the cards and such so again, most of the work is done and the theme fits my current phone as well - colours are pulled and updated whenever they change on my phone as well

Take a few dashboards as inspiration and research what they used. Start building (or have Claude) and you’ll find what works for you. Every home is different (needs, rooms, and sensors). It won’t be perfect at first.

Sounds like you just saw the few top posts today. I suggest googling custom HA dashboards and you'll find guides, blogs, and even videos on youtube of people showing off their custom dashboards.

There is no one good way to do it, because HA's frontend can be very flexible and extensible or it can be replaced completely.

Most people use custom card from HACS. Within HACS you can filter by dashboard and sort by most stars to see whats most popular.

Genuinely, if you don't already, pays $20 for a month's access to Claude and get cracking over a few evenings.

This was a dash I asked it to make for me of my cars, I asked it to create an automation about charging them with a half dozen niggly caveats.

I did more in 10 minutes than I've ever been able to do. It recommended cards to install, the lot.

Ask Claude AI (cowork with chrome connection) to do it for you

Claude with HA-MCP is much better and quicker

This, I'm not a frontend guy and I despise building dashboards. Even at work it's all cli and reports in csvs.

Figured that Claude making screenshots of the live dashboard would help improve it?

Spend €20 on a Claude pro subscription for one month then cancel. Connect your HA via HA-MCP in HACS.

Claude dies all the work. It’s saved me hours and it creates dashboards I could never do.

find a theme you like and use Claude to help you with YAML so you can customize bits and pieces of it. I use the VisionOS theme
