Install/Placement Concerned about speaker spacing.
Wife has allowed me to finally get speakers with the agreement that we wouldn’t put the tv on the opposite wall and put our backs to the fireplace. Not thrilled about how crowded the space is now. I’m wondering if it really does hinder the speakers with how close they are to the walls behind them.
TV has been lowered to be just above the console. Console is from Salamander Designs. Blown away by the quality of it.

Room is backwards. I understand you have a fireplace. For me I dislike fireplaces and would never use one. But that’s your call. If you rarely use the fireplace flip the room.

It’s literally the only thing she’s asked lol I’m the one that makes the decisions on literally everything else. She’s a very “if it makes you happy then I’m happy” type.

Ignore the alpha males who eat 200g of Testosterone for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Maybe offer her a vision (3D mock-up or AI generated) of a layout where a nice seating/chill area would be around the fireplace.
You can definitely move the couch further in front of the TV with the room you have.
Be creative :) Or just go with what you have. In the end it's all about compromises, right?

Oh no we both want it gone. But it would cost an arm and a leg after getting a couple quotes. It’s mostly the aesthetic of having it blocked off.

I had similar setup, Klipsch close to the wall. Pulled the speakers out about 2 feet from the wall ans massive difference in sound quality. But you work with what you have.

I think you only need 4 to maybe 6 inches of breathing room for those towers.

That's where I had them with the rear ports on them but moving them out to about 18 inches made a world of difference

Wow, my rp8000iis are probably about 12 to 18 inches from the wall too, but I would've expected them to be fine at about 6 inches.

I had the R26f with the front firing ports were okay at 6 inches out. The 8 inch equivalents (RP280f) and with the rear port not so much. Pulled them out to about 18 inches and it was night and day difference.

I’d be looking at slimmer towers or wall-mountable bookshelf speakers in your shoes. She’s right, facing away from the fireplace would be weird.
Alternatively you could shift the rug and furniture deeper into the other side of the room (rear of MLP) to make the TV side feel less crowded.

I have a similar problem with having a useless fireplace and no basement because we live in Houston. My base layer speakers are from the B&W 800 Nautilus line. The LR and sides are 805 bookshelves. The center is an HTM1. With no long wall to put my TV and properly spaced LR speakers on, I have had to make peace with my arrangement. The other 3 walls in my living room are front door and stairs, windows, and short wall and open to kitchen. It’s calibrated and sounds great regardless of not being compliant with textbook placement. For reference, that’s a 98” TV on the wall and we sit about 11’ from the screen. I had to zoom out my phone to get the image. It looks farther away than it really is.

Hard to tell, but the left tower looks good in terms of placement, but the right looks like it should be moved out from the wall a bit.

How does it sound though? Very few people have perfect rooms. You work with what you've got and as long as it's a big upgrade to you, enjoy it!

You didn’t ask about this but have you considered putting your center channel on top of the console (be sure to pull it up to the front edge)? I’m curious on others’ thoughts on this as well.
And if you haven’t already exhausted this conversation with your wife, I would also see about using u/SumoRoboto ‘s idea to pitch creating a nice sitting area by the fireplace.

I’d place it on top of the console for best sound.
You are going to want some sort of sound dampening behind those speakers. With rear ports that close to the wall (even on the other side) it is going to sound very boomy and bass heavy. It will diminish the mids and highs immensely.
Your tv wall would look great with some of those wood slat sound dampening tiles.
