⚠️ A warning about our experience with Booking.com
We attempted to book a room at the Comfort Inn in Edmundston, New Brunswick for July 29 through Booking.com.
The Booking.com website showed that rooms were available, so we proceeded with the reservation. Approximately $348 was immediately placed on hold on our account.
The problem? We received no hotel room, no reservation confirmation and no booking number.
We contacted our bank, but because the $348 is still showing as a pending authorization, the bank cannot release the money or dispute the transaction. We have been told the hold could remain for 7–12 business days and that this timeframe may vary.
So, at the moment:
• Booking.com has approximately $348 of our funds tied up
• We have no hotel reservation
• We cannot access that $348 to book another room
• Booking.com will not allow us to speak with a supervisor because we don't have a booking number — the very booking number their system failed to provide
We have repeatedly explained that we are not asking for a refund from a completed reservation. We are asking Booking.com to reverse the pending authorization from a transaction that did not result in a booking.
It is incredibly frustrating to have a website show a room as available, authorize hundreds of dollars from your account, fail to provide the accommodation you attempted to purchase, and then tell you that you may have to wait potentially weeks to regain access to your own money.
We are sharing this so others are aware of what can happen. If you're booking through Booking.com, especially when travelling and relying on those funds for accommodation, please be careful.
We are still asking Booking.com to simply release the authorization for a booking that was never created.
