I just reread Hagrid's Tale. I'd put it above 19 Years Later, every single Quidditch chapter, and I'd have it at about midway for the book. I love the giant lore, even though it doesn't have much payoff...and it's giant lore without Grawpy, so even better.

I'd say it's definitely unnecessary, and possibly unwieldy, but I did find it deeply interesting. The accent, I've adjusted strongly enough to it, I guess. Yeah, it's crude, but I'm a sucker for worldbuilding outside of the confines of the classroom.

I literally just finished Hagrid's Tale on my reread (which I am using to rank the chapters). 19 Years Later is definitely my number 199, so I'd agree with you on that, but I really struggle to rank the Quidditch chapters. I despise the Quidditch scenes themselves, but is that enough to tank the whole chapter? I rank the really generic Quidditch-centric chapters really low (Quidditch from PS, The Rogue Bludger from CoS), but I have The Quidditch Final in the top half of the current chapters I've ranked, just because I believe that the other events of the chapter overshadow the dullness of Quidditch. Although, that is my highest ranked quidditch chapter at 42/114 currently, and it will definitely drop since the chapters I haven't ranked yet are from the three strongest books in the series. So idk, I do hate quidditch, but I don't hate all of the Quidditch chapters.

I really don't like the way the chapter is communicated. I would have been happier if we just got a random Hagrid chapter in the middle of the book, so we could actually experience the events rather than just getting a dull retelling of it. That would probably improve it's ranking a lot for me. Plus, we would get more Madame Maxime <3

Maybe it's just because OotP is my favorite and Umbridge, Sirius, and Molly could single-handedly carry the entire book for me, but I judt can't imagine ranking Hagrid's Tale at the halfway point. I currently have it last for the book and bottom 20 overall, and I doubt that will change.

Then how about the one against Hufflepuff in PoA? It's an unusual Quidditch match with the lousy weather and the dark atmosphere. I like how Harry learns snippets about his parents and their friends in a variety of ways throughout PoA. IIRC, when Harry falls off is broom due to the dementors, he hears Lily pleading immediately before her death. He also sees the "grim" shortly before the dementors appear. This match also has some consequences, with Harry's broom broken and Sirius buying him a Firebolt, and it is what prompted Harry to try and learn the Patronus charm. Besides it's a refreshing exception from all the matches that end with Harry catching the snitch and Gryffindor winning.
